Army of Darkness is one of Sam Raimi's finest films and Bruce Campbell is an amazing thespian Speaking of sci-fi westerns.. You ever see The Adventures of Brisco County Jr? Was my favorite as a kid haha that show was a blast, I can't wait for Campbell to come back to the small screen this Halloween.

In anticipation of seeing the new Mamet play next month, I watched Glengarry Glen Ross this weekend. Such a great movie.

I watched Bone Tomahawk too and also thought it didn't suck, but I was wondering why the hell Kurt Russel bothered with it, because it wasn't anything special. Is that where his career is now?

Was thinking about what my top 5 favorite movies would be. It's tough but this is what I would go with (atm) in no particular order:
Forest Gump Good Will Hunting Into the Wild Goodfellas Momento

got jurassic world this weekend. like first movie ive bought in forever such a good movie lol. I finally got around to watch J.J. Abrams Star Trek. It was pretty good, but not what people had hyped it up to be. The second one is supposed to be better but they do that tired "the villain PLANNED to be captured" thing and I do not love that angle when it's not done well.

Watched Jurassic World this weekend. My three year old thought it was hilarious anytime somebody got eaten. It had some good action, the plot and dialogue and acting left a lot to be desired.
I'll give it a C+.
Watched Avengers Age of Ultron again too. It was good. Some of the same criticisms apply as above.

I don't think it compares to Jurassic Park. So much tension and drama in the original. Jurassic World wasn't scary at any point like JP was.

Jurassic Park is a very good big budget flick but "one of the best movies ever made"?
Let's calm down a bit.

I think I have found one shortcoming of this site format: I can't quote 2 posts in a new post, only 1. I raise this here, as I intended to quote the last post from both bigswifty and Frodo, re: Mamet. so, I just like you both instead.
anyway re: Mamet--as a playwright, I love him. as a filmmaker, it tends to be more like: love every third film, like every third film, hate every third film, repeat ad infinitum. his plays--ones I've seen at least--are personal and psychological, but when he writes for the screen, he tends to go heavy on political thriller kinda stuff, and it can get a little unnecessarily complex at times, to me at least. But, I really, really like Things Change, and I loved Phil Spector, the HBO flic he wrote and directed about (of course) Phil Spector, specifically his legal defense team--and I particularly loved it because, as a crim defense attorney, I thought the way the characters formulated the strategy was the most honest portrayal of the way crim defense attorneys come up with a defense I have ever seen on film--Mirren and Tambor (their characters actually, but I don't remember the character names) go through several realistic discussions where they debate how much they feel they can trust a jury with reasonable doubt versus how much they play the trial defense toward the jury's biases and preconceptions. and, of course, each of these discussions is dome replete with Mametian dialogue too.
Frodo, report back on the play when you can, please. and, yes, glengarry glen ross--great flic and great play (main differences: A. Baldwin's character is not in the play; and in the play, the whole first act is a series of 1 on 1 dialogues taking place in the Chinese restaurant).

My wife, who is very polite, low-key, and doesn't really speak much English, has taken to occasionally saying "What's my name? Fuck you! That's my name!" since we watched Glengarry Glen Ross, which was new to her. Baldwin's character was a good addition. I've been wondering how to quote 2 posts as well. Pretty sure I saw someone do it in another post.
