Getting pinned is a BIG deal, and its a huge thing. If its done right, its planned in advance and its a huge surpise to the kid in question.
My pinning was a huge deal, and happened the night after 10k after everyone left and our kids got permission to stay on the land for a few days and clean up before we left for yellowstone and glacier during the off days between 10k and seattle. Camp was kicking, a few off our kids where in the kitchen getting dinner ready, some kids where getting the fire started, and me and dawn and few others where out on a groundscore mission. This was just after the sun went down, we where walking up to camp (camp goodness sponsered by cookies, that is!!!) when 7-8 of our kids are walking towards me with this distinct look on their face. Now, about my actual pinning... Catch me in the real world sometime, ill tell you over a bowl, but something like that is just to personal to discuss over the internet. Lets just say it was special. I will say this, after i got pinned, dawn gives me this huge kiss and is like "baby you deserved that." After i got pinned we all had a huge celebration. It was a special time. We had a huge family dinner, and after dinner a sheet was put in a bottle of orange juice and everyone was ceremonially dropped by the Rev.

I fucking despise that story. and the whole wings deal in general. I know you're being sarcastic when you post it wally but it still grind my gears everytime I read it. Back in the day Owsley used to make Steal Yer Face belt buckles. People would buy them and give them as gifts to each other sometimes some cliques would give people a buckle after their 100th show. My friend (who possibly committed suicide no one really knows for sure) gave me one just because we rolled together on tour forever. I got arrested in Berkely at the greek behind a ten pack deal and I skated on the fact that they lost the evidence and couldn't get the custie to snitch on me, but when I got my property back my belt buckle was gone. As for thumb prints for christ sake back then we were laying paper with no gloves and dipping empty crystal jars that had a layer of L dust in them to get high and we all walked around with vials of crystal wash(the little bit of high potency liquid left in the pan, or baggie after you lay paper) in our pockets. The fucking GDF was and I say WAS a group of gutter punks off the haight that Fast Eddie recruited to roll around the country and to sell Research for him. 99% of the GDF never saw the Grateful Dead with Jerry Garcia and they certainly have never seen a gram of crystal L, and they certainly wouldn't be considered "family" by most of my generation. Rant over.
