organic isnt real. its all lies how do you actually know its diff than any other food? you dont its cuz its all a lie. its marketing All lies may be a little extreme. there are environmental benefits to eating organic, but somehow people began to believe there were health benefits too; there aren't. So, Rage you are more right than wrong on this one.

back to the topic. I majored in English. went to a cheap state school. no debt. got a masters. lived meagerly, got a teaching assistantship, no debt.
I know those days are pretty well over when that could be pulled off, so I'm glad I got in on it at the tail-end. I never tried to acquire a skill. I just read a bunch of books and learned to write and think critically. I think it paid dividends but not in any measurable way.
then, at age 29, I realized I was gonna have to figure out a way to make a living. so, like anybody that had half-decent grades in non-professional discipline, I went to law school. and that worked out. I like what I do a lot. not an especially high paying gig, but I don't require a great deal, and though it is a hell of a lot of hard work at times, I get plenty of ter time off that I can adjust pretty much as I please as well.

BS in Metallurgical Engineering from Ohio State University 1985 (not THE...that came later) So.....how many metallurgists do you know? Second oldest profession in the world. Worked at refineries, heat treat shops, print shops, steel mill, pipe mills. I've hung up my hard hat and now teach Manufacturing stuff at a Junior College. Been a good career and paid the bills. I ignored drug rules and took my chances on randoms. Partied always and saw tons of good music. Love the teaching gig. Got burned out on making stuff. College today is different. I've had two kids in it. One is totally successful, the other is a work in progress. Education is great if it works into your life plan. Otherwise, it could be a huge financial mistake.

So.....how many metallurgists do you know? Second oldest profession in the world. I'm pretty sure pimping is the second oldest profession in the world.

bird law? is that of the "always sunny in Philadelphia" or the "Harvey Birdman, attorney at law" variety?
Frodo, in alignment with my username, I am a New Mexico criminal defense attorney; however, unlike Saul, you better not call me. in fact, you can't call me--or you can't hire me; you have to be appointed to me. I'm a public defender and the majority of my work is post-conviction appeal work.

OK.....but i guess that is kind of like a paired profession. Do we know if the original prostitutes had pimps? Or were they not needed due to natural demand......hmmmm. Anyway, its an old metallurgist's joke. Most of them aren't funny. Like did you hear the one that Moly makes your tool hard? Moly in this case is molybdenum..an alloying element in tool steels.

Beware of Debt, the bubble will crash soon.
I know so many people, well almost every person I know went to college and regrets it because their in debt and it did not help them get a better paying job or get ahead. IT's great when you get your loans and your partying with college folk, but the economic reality sinks in later and they just end up working a job or 2 that has little to do with their degree.
For me it's a mechanic's trade or bust as soon as I can get there, should have done it in high school but in school they work on selling college to everyone. Just going to school is not good, it takes serious direction I think and yeah it does have the opportunuty to open doors.
IF I coudl afford to I would not mind further education I enjoy those types of environments sometimes. For instance Botany and Sustainable Farming would be cool. Political Science, etc..

went to school for business management, work for a bank in a research position right now. looking to advance or get to more internal work and not deal with so much BS.
in all, I like the fact that I get to listen to music for the majority of my day, but dealing with the rest of the BS is tough to do in the corporate world. bleh.

If you really know what you want to do, whatever it costs. If you are like me and still don't know what the fuck you want to do, don't waste your digital credits. I had help, but paid mine off years ago, and yes, just the degree got me a way better than average paying job. Employers see getting a degree at a decent school as a sign that you can manage your work, regardless of what the degree is in. Still, don't do it.

The problem is school should just open up much more opportunity but a lot of that get's wiped out by the cost of Capitalism. Banks, the Govrnment, and all kinds of shady institutions have their palms in this subsidized predatory capitalism scheme and even schools are to blame for this.
I think the best thing is to provide post graduate high school education and have people pay for it in their taxes, the economic and social toll will be much less and it will give young people with or without money a fresh start to go to school and not be in virtual servitude with 10's of thousands in debt in your early 20's. That would get America, the country with the lowest minimum educational attainment in the developed world started on a much better path with people seeing the benefits of a well educated and informed population throughout society.

Dude, I'm saying this nicely, if you are half as poor as you say you are I bet you can basically get a free ride at a tech school.
Just think about it, you can #ripoff them! Turn the tables!
