It's about getting to prime time in the PNW for the psychedelics to start popping. They just grow in the woods and grassy fields in cold/wet areas. Not just psycs but good edibles too. I'm new up here but mushroom hunting is respected and popular up here. Pretty cool but a lot to learn as well.
Idk about other parts of the country but there are psycs that grow in a lot of places.
Any good stories of tromping through cow fields? What types have you found?

My first thought was that I wouldn't know on sight a "fun" shroom from one that would kill me. My second thought was to do a google image search of what they looked like. My third thought was "wait I've seen shrooms like that growing in my back yard wtf".

Well anyway, in about January the fields would be poppin' and we would collect giant trash bags of shrooms. Here's what we would do- find about a giant trash bag of shrooms. dry them for a day or two around a fire while every one was tripping on fluff. Take the spun dried shrooms and push them into a big ass cider jug. Fill that jug with Mountain Dew(gotta be mountain dew!) after two days of being duct taped to a lawn chair pour out the Mountain Dew and drink it between three people. Hope that helps.

Good times - where in the PAC NW are you? When I lived in Eugene we used to pick at Mt. Pisgah and on the lawn at the U of O. Real convenient when they had shows there. At the mouth of the Columbia is the only place you'll find Azurecens in the entire world. Per gm, they're the most powerful. I've picked cyanesens (which grow on wood chips, so easy to find at landscaped buildings and parks) in front of the cop shop for the hell of it. Here's my pointers.
The state cops know what's up in the Astoria region and on the Washington side. They usually don't show up until nine a.m.. Go early and be done before they get there. The park rangers know what's up as far as people going to pick psychedelics, but they're easy to fake out. Tell them your hunting King Boletus. Point out to them that you know the psychedelics are poisonous, but since you're an amateur mycologist they have no worries about you. Act like you know more than them and they'll leave you be. No plastic bags, paper bags. I'd pick a bunch and then stash the bag so if anyone came up on me I didn't have a huge haul.

no. but after senior year of high school my buddy and i grew our own shrooms at his place. we told his mom it was a summer science experiment, because he ended up going for chemistry. it all worked out, and we tripped balls once we picked them.

Wild only once up in Oregon we went out and got a few different kinds including some cyanescens. The wavy blues were the only psilocybe we got the others were some kind of bolete, and some morells. But I grew a shit load of cubensis, in labs, years ago.

Those are pretty common around here I guess but most people stay away its not worth it. Known to be slightly poisonous but can be prepared. I've never seen any yet. im north of Seattle so I have a sweet range of sea level to 8000ft. But not exactly coastal even though im on the sound. They get good pyscs by the true west coastline.
Im keeping my eyes out for liberty caps and azzies but I havnt actually gone out looking yet I just go hiking and stuff. when they peak soon I might go in search. this facebook group 'pacific northwest mushroom identification and information' is pretty cool to check out. Some serious edible hunters and fungi nerd talk.

Outside of glacier national park 2003 there was a huge forest fire. In 04 I was staying with a buddy for the summer outside this wook community in a sliver of private land between the park and canada. There wad this crazy couple there that were pro morel hunters that went wherever a major fire was the year before to pick for the summer because they grow like crazy after a fire year. They would pick all day for 12 hours 7 days a week and come back and split a bottle of jack. Crazy people. In August they were taking off and let us know their last spot they were working. Me and 2 buddies went up 1 day and came back with over 30 lbs between us. Traded it to a chef for bud. Good times.

I have never wild picked, I mean shrooms have look alikes sometimes so from what I hear if you pick them and they don't bruise blue/dark purple/blackish theyre prolly not good, and obviously test a little bit.

It is that time of year, till about Thanksgiving. If you're looking for azurescens you need to go to Fort Canby State Park down by Ilwaco. There's a gate next to the Cape Disappointment Coast Guard station, go through that and all along the long road that leads to the river is where you'll find them, though it's better to go behind the dunes a bit so you're not right on the side of the road visible to all the traffic. I'd eat one or two of the first I found for a little of their energy and suddenly start seeing them all over the place. Get there early, leave early. I haven't been since the early 2000's so I don't know if anything's changed as far as access/cops. Obviously the weather conditions need to be right. If you haven't already, check out Paul Stamets. He's the guy.

Do you have phalaris grass in your yard or nearby? In Oregon I had a backyard full of it. Run it through a wheat grass juicer and extract the dmt.

Reed Canary Grass. De-fat with water, extract with a solvent, evap solvent. Easy-Peasy. Grows almost everywhere.

I pick non magic mushrooms outside if I have the time off work. Magic are easy enough to grow. Definitely easier than finding wild ones in ny.
