I'm going to start riding again soon since I got some of my mobility back. No trail riding. I'm looking to part out my bike and buy a 29er if all goes well. 29 is nice

I don't like this thread. Not because I don't care about bikes, I don't, but because that fucking song has been stuck in my head ever since I saw the title.
I did watch a group of kids riding around in the harbor doing wheelies the entire time. That was neat to watch. I won't ever say anything else in here.

Do not go to Dicks or some big box store, if you are riding the paved path down to Starbucks, they will be fine, but that's about it.
Get a low level Giant from a LBS. My first mt bike was a Giant Iguana in like 89-90, I wish I still had it. My current bike is a Schwinn Homegrown from ''97, I paid like $2000 for it back then and take care of it, hard tail.
I would like a 29er but don't see it happening anytime soon, I haven't been on the trails in a long time. When I have time to ride I usually roll out of the garage, hit the paved roads or the gravel roads. Trails I need to drive a bit, and that is time I could be riding.

Oh, and totally stalk CL, stay away from the dealers on there, or guys that have 10 unrelated bikes but they all have pictures in front of the same garage.
Anyone that isn't try to pass a turd to you shouldn't have a problem with you having a bike shop check it out.

A fixie would be perfect for your area and they are super fun to ride once you get the hang of it. It's a little scary at first but that's part of what makes it fun. I'd recommend building your own over buying a complete one but if you're not picky about components there are some good complete ones out there and I'm sure there are a ton of them on BK CL. Building one is fun though.

I got my frame, fork, stem and seat post from citygrounds. The rest I got on amazon and I just got a new wheelset from bicyclewheelwarehouse. Com. A lot of the fixie specific wheelsets you find on fixie sites and Amazon are pretty generic and heavy. The ones I got aren't ultra light but the rims, hubs and spokes are all a bit higher quality name brand stuff.

I ordered some new bar tape the replace the stuff I shredded going down on Friday. Went with yellow to match the helmet I ordered. I might hold off on putting it on though because as much as I like the clean bike look, I think I want to go back to having brake hoods to hang on to for climbing. I want to try to start going on group rides and I don't want to be the dickhead who runs into someone because I'm too cool for a brake. Will also be easier on the knees.

Put some yellow tape on my gravel bike and my gloves blead black on the top of the bars the first ride.
Still looks good.
....don't be the guy that wipes out the peloton because you couldn't tap on the brakes.

I've been riding brakeless for a pretty long time now and I can modulate my speed pretty expertly at this point but quick stops over short distance are tough. Especially if I'm not anticipating it.

Basically no brakes is fine for 90% of the riding I do but riding in traffic or with others can be a little sketchy. I don't do either of those things often but I don't want to limit where I can go.

Pure Fix makes some sweet fixed gear bikes. They run a couple hundred bucks. I'm thinking about picking one up this fall.
