New helmet, gloves and bar tape arrived but the gloves are too small. New lid is pretty sweet though. I can tell it's going to feel a lot cooler on my head than my mtn bike helmet.

Did 32 miles of mostly gravel roads this afternoon, 1,200 ft of climbing. It felt like doing 60 miles on the road bike. Some long uphill stretches of fresh deep gravel were murder, like riding on a beach. Was about 100 degrees when I started but some clouds moved in for the last 8 miles or so.
Saw a ton of prong horn, got chased by a couple of farm dogs.

I agree but I'd also check cl for used kids trek or something nicer. My daughters little bmx type bike is such a pos. All the bearings go bad in those things in like 6 months.

All those French dudes are fast as shit. Also if you get a chance, check out the drive train on his bike. It's a commencal supreme v4. Commencal hardtail is on my short list for my next frame.

Buying my daughter a new bike today. It will likely be a Walmart Mongoose BMX... She's 8, she doesn't need anything better than that. I'd say check the bikes shops and Craigslist for a used one. Just my opinion but I'd rather ride a used decent bike than a new crappy one. I found my daughters used specialized and a Schwinn for a little over 100 each and when you watch them ride with there friends it's easy to see the difference. Most if not all chain store bikes are not even designed to ride correctly. For a child this can be frustrating. Much like learning to play an instrument that is not capable of sounding good. |
