"I got in an argument once with a friend over which was better: cats or dogs. My friendβs reasoning was, a cat is a ruthless, calculating predator, a hunter with only the barest trappings of domestication. A cat rarely comes when you call, and hardly ever seems happy to see you. A catβs love, then, has to be earned. A cat wonβt love just anybody, and that makes the affection it does show more valuable. Dogs? Dogs are easy. Dogs donβt take effort. A dog wags its tail at any idiot with a kind word."
"Well yeah, I told my friend. Thatβs the point."

This is exactly the way Iko (bernese mountain dog) used to slide himself off the hassock/ottoman. Like the hassock/ottoman is pushed up against the loveseat, and he'd lay across them both, and when he wanted down, if he wasn't in any hurry, he'd often do it just like that, til he flopped to the floor. Always made us laugh. My friend Adam always joked that he just liked to rub his weiner, haha. But I think it just felt really good to stretch his hips/legs/back. He did have joint issues (common in his breed). I noticed in his last couple years he didn't do it anymore, and kinda figured it started hurting him as his joints got worse.

A few months ago, I was wondering where I heard the term hassock. Thanks Vik.
