I read this article a couple few weeks ago that said Trump's biggest failure (as far as his plan to stay in power) was not going to the Capitol on Jan. 6 to cement his position and how it's necessary for the leader to be there to immediately inaugurate themselves as leader of the new order. Sounds like that was Trump's plan, but the S.S. got in the way.

Yeah it came out in the hearings yesterday that the ss knew that the mob was armed with assault rifles and spears etc. I dont think they're allowed to knowingly take the President into situations like that.

That's the thing about staging a coup.
In a democracy you get to go home at the end of the night if you lose an election, even if you contest your loss. You can even say some negative shit about the winner if you want without worrying about consequences.
In a coup, the stakes are much higher - you're going all in. If you're unsuccessful you might be the one jailed for life, exiled, or at the end of a noose before you even know what's happening.
I think if Trump was at the Capitol he could've pulled off a delay of Biden's certification (and probably gotten some unlucky members of Congress executed), but I doubt he'd of had the backing of the military and once they had gotten involved his goose would've been cooked.
