We went to Highwood Il for dinner and a concert on friday. In order to get there you have to drive through downtown Highland Park where the shooting happened. I have been in that location easily a thousand times but this was the first time driving through it since the shooting. It felt a little surreal, a little chilling and a lot sad. I told my wife that unfortunately you never know and can expect gun violence almost anywhere these days, but Highland Park Illinois was a place i thought something like this would NEVER happen. Probably the most affluent suburb in Il, the largest Jewish population in IL and just an overall, quiet, crime free area. Still weird to think about and just hard to put it all together.

It's basically in the subdivision next to ours just across a major street. If you dont want to read the article basically a group of 5 got into an altercation with another group at a bar about 10 minutes away. the group of 5 went home and the other people followed them and opened fire on them when they got out of their cars in the driveway. We live in a very quiet subdivision and although there is crime in our township it happens on the other side of town and not around us. THis is obviously very worrisome to hear and read but we obviously know it could happen anywhere

It sucks for the regular people and music fans and all that but there's a part of me that hopes the no abortion, guns everywhere states see their economy and tourism dollars take a huge hit. Maybe some people will think twice about who they vote for or if they vote at all. And yeah, I know, WV and glass houses and all that. We ain't got shit to lose. All that, plus I don't mind seeing the gun nuts being affected to a greater degree by having more of their type of events (country music fests, etc.) cancelled. |
