I'm way out of the loop on what's what. First thing that came to mind was something I learned about FDR's New Deal way back in middle school. Only other thing I could think of would go in the NSFW thread, but that's because I'm getting up into dirty old man age.

further proving my point that superhero movies have jumped the shark
with that being said, DeadPool and Wolverine is going to be epic

further proving my point that superhero movies have jumped the shark with that being said, DeadPool and Wolverine is going to be epic I think you're misunderstanding "jumping the shark" The movies are stale, they are no longer entertaining and lean on way to much CGI to pull people in. The story lines are meh and the acting is sub par compared to the older movies. It's an oversaturated market with very similar story lines through and through.

You can't jump the shark and unjump the shark. Deadpool and Wolverine looks like it's going to be huge/right the ship.
Black Panther 2 and Shang-Chi were both very solid movies. They've had a few clunkers in a row but that's also happened before (Iron Man 2 -> Thor: The Dark World).

Iron Man 2 was still light years better than the Marvels imo.
There's no doubt there have been and there will continue to be good Marvel/Superhero movies, and maybe 'jump the shark' wasn't the right phrase, but my point is that I feel all this shit has gotten stale, overall, and the whole superhero craze has lost its luster. just my opinion though

They're not going to stop making superhero flicks. They've been making them since 77.

Not saying they're going to stop, just don't care anymore and I believe, if i'm not already, i'll be with the majority on this one eventually.

Fwiw I'm surprisingly optimistic about the upcoming secret wars stuff in spite of some mediocre recent movies

Loki season 2 was really good IMO.
But yes, The Marvels was not their strongest effort but I think it was intended for a different audience than middle-aged white guys who used to read comic books.

I'm kind of with gerg on MCU. I've seen most, maybe all of them up through the last Avengers where they beat Thanos. Nothing since. I wasn't a comic book kid. Not sure why. Probably other interests. Watched the movies because they were entertaining even if you weren't a comics person and more importantly because at the time they were part of the 2010's zeitgeist. Special effects technology advanced to the point where creating the MCU made sense on several levels; they had the stories, it wouldn't just look like actors in costumes inserted into unconvincing backgrounds - they could finally give comics the production values they deserved. MCU is perfect example of right time, right place. The most interesting aspect to me was seeing how Marvel tied everything all together and made it one big story. They took the idea of movie franchises to a whole new level.
After that last Avengers movie and the pandemic delay I guess I just decided it wasn't something I was willing to invest my time in anymore. They all seemed samey exercises that led to the inevitable third act CGI battle followed by the credits teasers to let you know what to expect in the next few episodes. Then there were all the tv shows. Got to a point where I figured I had to watch it all (or most of it) or accept that even if I might enjoy a movie on it's own, by not seeing everything else that came before I wouldn't be getting the full experience and so it would mostly be just watching for the CGI set pieces and not for the overall story.
I doubt the genre is going anywhere as long as they're immensely profitable but they just don't seem as 'must see' as they were in the 2010's when it seemed everyone watched them. Now they seem more a thing for people into comics or who still love the MCU as much as they have since it started. I think there's a lot of people like myself who've given up on it as something to be followed, lost interest, moved onto other things to scratch that entertainment itch, etc. But it's cool that they've built up their universe so successfully, can drop in all sorts of references and explore thousands of possibilities from their seemingly endless well of stories/characters so that they can keep the comics fans (if not all of the more casual viewers) entertained and coming back.
