Pokemon cards have some crazy value...they fly off the shelves as quickly as sports cards.

speaking of sports cards, has anyone looked into this NBA top shot stuff? basically online trading cards that are gifs of highlights? they extremely limited due to being new and in limited supply, ran on blockchain tech., and you can make mad money on them, by selling them. the super rare ones, or awesome highlights have sold for over 6 figures... my coworker told me about it like a month ago, and wish i would have gotten in then, seems like its a new market that's primed to take off.

I read an article on this and I can't say I understand the whole model of this. Seems like another way to siphon money from people without giving them anything tangible of value.

(I looked up what tangible means. Strict definition is "touchable" but I was thinking more like "real".)

But what does it even mean that you own that clip. I can still youtube the highlights and see them. Where is your value? What happens if this company goes out of business? I just don't understand how anyone would actually own anything. I'm also a simpleton.

honestly, could see them doing the digital format across all sports soon, the NBA was just the first to the market place.
and hokie, i'm in your boat still. i know it has to do with the NFT thing bear mentioned, but it doesn't make sense to me. why i would own a gif, just to resell or keep for myself, when i could just go look at highlights.
