So how does the Moe. fam feel about them opening up for UM at RR?
Kinda like a mid-tier progressive rock jamband torch passing.
I think the story between Moe. and UM is super cool and Umphreys owes a TON to Moe. for helping them get exposure and put their name out there. It seems like Moe.'s popularity has taken a significant hit over the last 5 years and they're not really reaching out to many new fans these days. I couldn't make RR happen but an extended Moe. set followed by 2 UM sets and made sit ins each night sounds like a fucking blast though!
Calling it right now...night 2 Encore both bands out....Rebubula

moe.fam is mostly blah and not going because of the opening spot. I don't think moe. would fill red rocks on their own at this point, and the um shows I've seen lately have been thinner than usual so I think this is a good idea for both bands overall.
All the jamband torch passing talk is a little cringe to me.

UM and moe. play rebubula differently and I don't think that would jive but I do love when members of those bands visit each other. I'm still reeling with the Ringo > tailspin > Ringo from a few years ago at scamp, hotsauce!!

At this point unless your name is Goose the jamband music scene has been seeing thinner crowds overall. I think the state of the music scene overall has been having issues selling tickets and selling out shows with the exception of a few here and there.
Also i think it's safe to say UM reached their peak in terms of crowd size probably around 2017. I believe that year they sold out multiple nights at RR and multiple other shows all over the country. A couple years after that, for whatever reason they started seeing smaller turn outs in areas where there used to be bigger turn outs and now the pandemic has made that even worse. Since it's their 25 year anniversary they will probably see a slight uptick in fan turnout, but who knows if it will last.

I was 3 sheets to the wind during that and we watched some dude who super spun play with his bhole during that Tailspin. That segment was hot fucking fire though! |
