My oldest had his last JV Football game last night. I got there a few minutes late and when I arrived everybody was dead silent because the opposing team's QB was down on the field not moving. It took about 20 minutes, but they called an ambulance, stabilized his neck, put him on a backboard and drove him to the hospital.
It was scary. I wonder if we'll even hear any updates about him?

On that note, I'm finding myself cringing more and more when a player gets hit hard (at any level of the sport), rather than getting excited about it.

I can't imagine being a football parent. I love watching the sport, but you don't have the same concerns watching your kid play hoops, running track or playing tennis.

So I was running late this morning and the dude helping me sat waiting for me for 30 minutes and then when I got here he said im not working today and gets all mad about me being late. I told him he was getting paid for the half hour and wtf is the problem? Hes like just give the money you owe me(90 bucks from Monday so he can leave. I told him I didn't have cash, wasn't leaving to go to the atm and just fuck off.

There was another hard hit later in the game and the fans in the stands went nuts, even after the kid didn't get up...I'm glad my son is playing football, but I'm also not real excited about it...I was brought to tears last night while I was watching the one kid get stretchered up, thinking it could have been mine.

I played thru Sr. year of high school. I guess I was pretty good. Only guy on the team who was All League on offense and defense. (I was a guard and MLB.) Talked to a couple small schools about playing in college but in my heart I really didn't want to play anymore. It's a vicious game. I destroyed this QB once, kid I played with in tyro years earlier. I was a hero because he was pretty good and they had no chance to beat us without him. Admittedly I was pretty pumped during the game but felt like shit afterward. One time when I was a junior I got knocked the fuck out on the field. A senior grabbed me by my pads, picked me up screamed at me to shake it off. I did. If I had a son I don't know if I'd let him play.

The oldest boy isn't a starter on JV as a sophomore...plays on kickoff and gets in as a DE late in games during garbage time...so there's limited opportunities for him to get seriously hurt.
I worry about him for sure...but I am going to let him play...unlikely he plays past the high school level anyway.

I am not into full contact sports at all. Luckily, hockey isn't too rough yet at Ben's age, but I know it will get there.

We agreed that if we had a boy we’d steer him away from football. Rich had multiple concussions in high school and said it’s not worth it.

I wish my kids liked volleyball...
And I wish Batavia had a boys team...
My oldest is already like 6'2" at 15 years old...would be a good hitter.

Our pediatrician said at the junior high level is when the risk of bigger injuries usually starts for full contact sports. He also said that he sees the most broken bones from trampolines and 4 wheelers lol

That sucks. Dude is going thru some stuff. I'm aware, I just don't know why he didn't just tell me last night he didn't want to work. Showing up and then trying to make it about me is bullshit.
