Jesus, Biden and the dnc are now trying to cancel the democratic primaries in Tennessee and North Carolina.
Our democratic system of government is going to shit right before our eyes, people.
This is so bad

Nominating processes and how and where candidates wind up on the ballot have never been decided democratically, but in back rooms by political bosses.
There was an NPR story yesterday about how New Jersey candidates end up where they do on the physical ballot and how because of that all the decision makers are backing the Governor's wife's Senate run. I can't remember all the details, but there was nothing democratic about any of it.
I'm not at all surprised that party's do what they can to make things as easy for their preferred candidates as possible or just flat out diminish the say of the public. I'm more surprised that people are surprised and that they put up with it.

“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running,” Biden said Tuesday. “But we cannot let him win.”
Today Biden says there's probably 50 Democrats who could win against Trump. “No, I’m not the only one who can defeat him, but I will defeat him,”
So he's only running because Trump is running, but he's also confident there's around 50 other Dems who could beat Trump. So much for his saying he'd be a bridge to the next generation and taking the whole "too old" topic off the table by going out well liked for beating Trump but being wise enough not to give the GOP an opportunity to make his age a potentially winning issue by those on the fence and younger voters who say his age (among other things) is an issue for them.
Sounds like he's running for personal reasons but wants everyone to believe he's doing it for the good of the country. If he loses because Dems couldn't get the unenthused out to vote he's gonna get crucified for not stepping aside to let one of those other 50 Dems beat Trump.

Its unfortunate that the silver spoon rich guy who was in congress for an hour and a half, the "self-help guru" and the guy born in another country couldn't generate more enthusiasm for their candidacies.
If they had, I'd like to think they would have been heard.

Its unfortunate that the silver spoon rich guy who was in congress for an hour and a half, the "self-help guru" and the guy born in another country couldn't generate more enthusiasm for their candidacies. If they had, I'd like to think they would have been heard. If Biden had stepped aside earlier there would have been candidates with a serious chance of winning (Newsom, Whitmer, etc.) getting in the race and not just those without any serious chance who are primarily running to raise their personal profiles. But because he didn't, and because those candidates who are now looking to '28 are playing by the unwritten party rules saying you don't challenge an incumbent, everyone who'd like to consider an alternative is stuck with silver spoon rich guy self-help guru born in another country as the only alternatives. Now Biden, the Dem party, and anyone in the country who values a somewhat democratic form of govt. has to hope that his (selfish?) gamble pays off because he said there are at least 50 dems who could beat Trump. Not that I think any of those "50" Biden says could beat Trump would be a lock, but he's basically set expectations so that any of those 50 who won't be running can beat Trump and therefore if he loses he comes off as the guy who put himself before the party and the country because he said he's only running because Trump is and was unwilling to let any of those 50 winners have a shot. If he says all those other 50 could win why does he feel he needs to run only because Trump is running? It sounds like Trump vs Biden is a battle of the old guy egos and bragging rights. As far as his legacy is concerned and what he's doing he's set expectations so that there's not much to gain but a ton to lose. I doubt the MAGA dumbasses would look at it this way, but maybe this is what diminishing mental acuity looks like?

It's telling the people of your state that they do not get a voice in the democratic process. This is not what America is supposed to be about The Electoral College system already tells the majority of Americans who live in solid red/blue states that they don't really get a true voice in the democratic process. Their votes in the general election count far less than that of a swing state voter so it's not really a stretch that the primaries are also set up to not fully value the voice of the people.

Iowa and New Hampshire have several more choices than the other states without a lot electoral college, as people typically drop out after poor showinga there. then after super Tuesday, the remaining states really don't have a choice.

its almost as if the people don't have a voice anymore even though we're told our vote "matters". but what does it matter if the candidates are just chosen by the powers to be anyway?

I've lived in some countries where there is no primary system. Each party chooses who their candidate will be. The first round of voting has as many candidates as qualify - 20+ is normal. Second round is either between the top two vote getters of the first round or consists of the top five and then a third round is held between the top two vote getters of the second round. Sometimes the parties are well established and they run a different candidate each election. Sometimes the the party is completely new and based totally around the candidate running. In all cases whoever gets thee most popular votes (there are no other kind) throughout the entire country wins. Elections are always held on Sundays so it's easy for everyone to make the time to vote and the election doesn't interfere with work . In countries where it's mandatory there are exceptions for people over a certain age. Everyone uses the same method to vote. No early voting. No voting by mail. The militarily lazily hangs around outside the school or wherever the polling place is, solely as a presence to make sure no funny stuff happens at the polling places. A winner is usually declared 3 hours after the polls close.
Pretty sure most of Europe runs their elections similarly. Not sure what countries other than the US have a primary/caucus system. Seems the way it "works" is that you get your say in the general election and if you want a say on who the candidate will be you need to personally get involved in the party as opposed to being someone like most who only register as a D/R or even just informally identify with a party.

Iowa and New Hampshire have several more choices than the other states without a lot electoral college, as people typically drop out after poor showinga there. then after super Tuesday, the remaining states really don't have a choice. Exactly. Choices winnow down and by the time primaries make it out to a populous state like CA the nominee has already locked up the needed number of delegates so those millions of people rarely get any say in who the candidates will be. A national primary day would eliminate all of that, but would make it nearly impossible for a less well funded candidate to successfully campaign nationally and would eliminate the possibility of a candidate starting out small, doing well in some early primaries, and then building enough momentum that they could actually win enough delegates. But that's all making primaries entertaining horse races as opposed to being functional or democratic. I think all this talk about democratically choosing who the candidates will be is kind of secondary. Far more important is the fact that it takes huge amounts of $ to run if a candidate wants to have a chance at winning. Having to raise all that $ essentially makes them employees of big donors, invites corruption, etc. It's no surprise there are so many grifters in politics - that's where the $ is.

^^ my dad and I debate the national primary idea regularly. he typically sides with national primary fairness whereas I idealisticlly hope for the underdog guy to gain momentum.
