This RB issue isn't going away. Teams are literally crazy to sign RB's to a huge second contract and all the numbers bear it out. For every Derrick Henry contract that works out, there are lots of Zeke's, Gurley's and Kamara's that are a disaster. The NFLPA is going to have to get creative. Dominique Foxworth had an interesting idea. The NFLPA keeps a pool of money (it's a lot, couple hundred million) to pay to players who have wildly outplayed their rookie deals. He suggests using some of this money to elevate RB pay. I think it's going to take something like that to solve this issue.

teams just realized over time that you don't need a bell cow RB like the days of old. ideally you get a group of RBs who are efficient and often have different strengths that compliment each other well. it makes sense from a business perspective, but from the RB side it sucks for them. no one wants to pay a RB who is even in their late 20's these days. i mean Cook not being signed anywhere tells you how far apart these GMs and agents/RBs are in negotiations. he's still in his prime and no one wants him for his price.

His decline was so fast once they started up again in the pros. It sucks that his contract/health issues have had a negative impact on the RB market as a whole.

Let's be honest
QBs don't need to make half a bill a year 90-100mil would be just fine

I really can't stand pro athletes complaining about 8 figure contracts. Any sport
But NFL QBs do get overpaid. They can bomb too. I can't remember the guy that signed with Denver for like 100 million and they benched him then he retired.
Qb is the hardest position and also thr face of the team. But the percentages between positions is not equal

Osweiler finished his career with a 15-15 record as a starter, 7,418 passing yards, a 59.8 completion percentage, 37 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. Plus, of course, the $41.4 million that he made just in football salary.
72 million 4 year contract. Nice.

I disagree that QB's get overpaid. Baseball and basketball players are overpaid waaaaaaaaaaay more than any players in the NFL and their contracts are fully guaranteed. The quarterback position is the most important position in all of sports, those players deserve all the money because, at the end of the day, they will be the reason for their teams success. Edge Rusher is 2nd most important position in all of sports.
I also believe that no contract should be guaranteed in any sport. You are rewarding players on their past merits rather than giving them an opportunity to work for their money.

The top QB's aren't overpaid. Mahomes, Burrows, Allen and guys like that can't be replaced. The problem is that the entire position is elevated by the top guys. Patrick Mahomes making a billion dollars shouldn't impact what you have to pay Carson Wentz. You shouldn't have to pay Tannehill or Daniel Jones more than 35 million a year, but the "market" dictates it.
