i think you can have the court storming in a safe manner. i believe creighton literally had a countdown clock of like a 15 second buffer when they knocked off UConn last week. people don't complain when the fans storm the court and no one gets "hurt", everyone just celebrates and has a good time and no one bats an eye. the moment a player acts out at fans or vise versa and it could go away forever. in my opinion though, its part of the college experience, knock off a highly ranked team at home, celebrate with thousands of others on the playing surface, what's so "wrong" about that?
is it ok for football fans then since those players are wearing equipment to protect them? or fans can't storm the field either?

It was a huge story two weeks ago too when Nebraska court stormed after beating the Iowa women and a fan got tangled up with Caitlin Clark. I can't make sense of anything on that graphic being real, but I absolutely think they should outlaw it and there should be significant penalties for the school and/or the participants. If you can't do it at a pro game, why is it ok to do at a college game? It's just a safety issue. I was watching people with cell phones getting in players faces and recording them seconds after a tough loss. It might not be a player getting injured, it might be a drunk college kid shit talking the wrong person and getting the daylights beat out of them. This is mostly where I'm at. That said, it just seems like court storming after a big win is part of the college basketball culture. The powers that be don't really want to get rid of it, it's exciting and makes for great promos

I don't think there should be any issue requiring attendees to stay off the court at all times unless invited by staff. I mean, the very meaning of the word is enough for me...
verb 1. move angrily or forcefully in a specified direction. "she burst into tears and stormed off" Similar: stride angrily stomp march charge stalk flounce stamp fling 2. (of troops) suddenly attack and capture (a building or other place) by means of force. "commandos stormed a hijacked plane early today"

i'm all for player safety too but i'm more for college kids having a potentially once in a lifetime experience. think about the total number of college hoops games per season, well over a thousand games, fans storm the court across the nation what, maybe 100 times total across college hoops? and we're going to be upset at it because a player faked an injury one time?
i will say those wake fans were a little quick to jump the gun though, as there was still like .5 second left when the first fans were already on the court. that part of it seems a bit egregious, but overall let the kids have fun.

I'm not denying it's fun to watch, but fans court storm everything now. Beat the 4th ranked team in the Country in the third week of the season? That's a court storming. Beat your in-state rival even though they are 7-4? That's a court storming. It's not going to take too much for one of these to turn into Malice at the Palace and then everyone is fucked.

I went on this huge rant the other night about civil societies needing some rules and boundaries and that in the absence of rules and boundaries we're not all that far removed from the chimps. The argument that kids should get to experince a once in a lifetime moment is just justification for people wanting to be the main character in every situation.

lol no. its something those kids always remember and take with them. its ok we'll just agree to disagree on this. like i said its only ever a topic of discussion when it goes "wrong". and the 2 incidents this year, with Caitlin Clark and last weekend with Flipowski, neither player actually got hurt. there was fan/player contact and that's it. i can see how its teetering towards being more dangerous, but also with how many times courts get stormed in all of college hoops, no one bats an eye during the other 100 times it happens without a hitch.

I was watching penn st beat Illinois and the fans stormed the court and a couple of the Illinois players had use the post for the backboard as a shield. Then several people had to lock arms to create a barrier to get them safely off the court. It's a situation that is primed for something awful to happen. I'm in favor of player safety over all other considerations.

A fire alarm got pulled last night halfway through the 2nd half of the IU and Wisconsin game. They evacuated the building which resulted in a 17 minute pause in action. Never seen that before.

and can we at least all agree that's why this has been a topic de jour this week? because initially everyone thought Flipowski was seriously hurt from the court stormers. but if he's not limping off the floor, no one is even talking about it this week.

I actually thought about the possibility of injury to players at the end of the illinois penn st game. I don't watch espn or even read sports news, so this morning was the first time I've heard about that dude. Faker or not, I'm in favor of ensuring the safety of the players.

Hell, safety of the players, coaching staff, refs, other attendees who may get caught up in the mob. It's a wonder someone in the stands hasn't gotten trampled.

There was undeniable contact in both the Duke and Iowa incidents, it doesn’t change my mind at all that he wasn’t seriously injured.

a serious injury would be missed games. if that was the case, i'm 100% on your guys side. shit i said that i'm for player safety, but there also can be a happy medium when it comes to how fans want to celebrate.
like jay bilas said on PMT today, the schools and conferences don't want it to go away because its unique to college sports and a selling aspect for potential athletes and students. he just was upset at all the backlash he got this week, and rightfully so. handing out citations for kids storming the court is an absurd idea.

This is a microcosm of a bigger issue. One in which so many people seem to think they should always be allowed to do whatever the hell they want to without the simplest regard for the well being of others or any consideration that, while it might seem fun to them, it might completely ruin someone else's experience. We're living in the me me me me me me me era.
Old'd... whatever.
