I have it on very reliable sources (happy to tell you more in private) that not only did Ben not willingly leave the band, he also was shorted funds on his last 3 shows- causing a large fallout between the boys about a week ago.
The announcement came shortly after Ben confronted the rest of the band about the unfair BS they had been pulling, and Rick and Ben got into a physical altercation 3 nights ago. Apparently that was the final straw and the next morning they all had a meeting that ultimately ended with one less member.
I know this is a weird time for us fans but looking forward to more good music, both from Ben and Goose!

In all seriousness. I did read into things, and I can't tell exactly what happened, but from the drummers Ig post on leaving the band's comment section, you see some insiders saying things. At it seems to be something with the new precisionist, and him being a creep of some sort. He's new though. Came on in 2020. Why they would pick him over the long time drummer, not sure? But it seems this percussionist has clout in the band through funding or connections to music world or something of that nature, so the band had to make a decision? I have no idea really what happened, but there's little bits of information there. This is just what I pieced together while reading those posts. Your interpretation is as good as mine.
Yeah, I think the Bongo B**** definitely plays a role in this. I mean imagine being the sole drummer for years and then one day Greasy Rick tells you that he is letting this little b**** join the band to bang around on some bongos.... I know that I wouldn't be happy.

Even juicier.
I have been following this drama (insert Michael Jackson eating popcorn meme) unfold in various threads. This is what I gleaned as indisputable consensus:
- Whatever "creative issues" may have arisen (ie. why do they need a percussionist; tempo; etc.) is—by a wide margin—secondary to interpersonal drama. It may have helped seal the deal, but it seems pretty clear that the trigger was not related to musical differences. And drugs and booze don't seem to be a driver. That leaves s** and money/power dynamics.
- Ben's fiancée dumped him prior to European tour; maybe even during summer
- Peter Goose narced on Ben for having a tryst (at some point)
Then the consensus splits:
- either Ben f'd a groupie while he was still engaged and Peter Goose tattled to fiancée, who broke off engagement
... or ...
- fiancée had already dumped Ben for who knows why; then newly single Ben went and f'd a band or crew/mgmt member's gf, which triggered the narcing and dismissal
I did think it was interesting that Scotty Zwang responded to Ben's post: "Those dudes f'd up. I say that with love."

He left the band and I don't think it's any wooks business posting on a dbmb. Sure it's fair to speculate but they'll find a replacement and keep chugging along.
Also fuck the bongo dude. He brings little to nothing to their sound, has been a creep online towards girls (allegedly), and as far as I'm concerned they were better as a 4 piece.

Is this the state of rock bands today? Rock musicians and their crews (married, engaged, single - don't matter) used to bang each other's wives/girlfriends/random or preferred groupies all the time and nobody broke up or kicked someone out of the band over it. Even the squeaky clean Beatles had George banging Ringo's wife while he was married to Patti, but they never stopped working with each other. Bobby Weir banged everybody. He got "fired" in late '68, but it was for not keeping up musically. AFAIK, nobody in the band or crew ever suggested he had to go for screwing Donna or anybody else's wife in tGD family. Bein' a successful rock musician sure ain't what it used to be.
