I assume a major "reunion" announcement on the horizon, something along the line of FTW50 but maybe with Mayer on guitar?
Chicago certainly on the radar for next summer. What do you think?

Would be cool if they did something with a new “Jerry”. If they had all surviving members keeping John Mayer without Oteil just seems kinda weird to me. I’d vote for BMFS 🤷🏻♂️

Phil and Bill? Without them it would seem like just an extension of Dead & Co but with even fewer people who played in tGD (or Dead & Co. for that matter).

At some point they have to hang it up, right?
The music never stopped...
And probably should have...

Pretty sure he is, and I doubt Phil would be interested. Can't blame either of them.
They could celebrate 60 without playing shows. Maybe release a nice coffee table book.

This might be the last time the old boys can get together for a good heartfelt cashcowin jam sesh GD60 style Grateful Dead & Friends but I think they’ll merch it hard on the GD60 theme and won’t play in the band

Lots of rumors from people who more than likely have 0 credibility on the internet are saying that GD60 Chicago is a go for next summer.

I think they should gather a bunch of bands to play dead tunes together. Phil, Bobby, Mickey etc can sit in and it can be a big party celebrating the dead but with more energy than being at an actual “dead” show.

I'd still rather go see another version of this than whatever remnants of the band could put together at this point.

needs multiple stages tho... the pause waiting for bands to tear down and set up sucks.

I went to the playboy jazz fest at the Hollywood bowl in 2010 and they did the rotating stage thing. It was awesome to have one act end and then the next one all ready to go.

this isn't a dead show, this is a dead off shoot dealio. and a cash grab, but that's always the case.

I'd be more interested in a Phish 50 ter in 9 more years.
It'd be the same lineup over those 50 years, instead of what might be Bobby being the only original and Mickey being the only other long-term member from tGD while all the rest are post tGD hired ter musicians playing in a tribute band.
Phish would likely play sets similar to what they're doing now - a healthy mix of tunes spanning their entire career right up to the present, whereas for decades the "Dead" have strictly been a travelling oldies act who aren't creating and playing any new music (I'm not counting 'new' cover versions of other people's tunes). In 2024 a Phish audience is far more open to hearing new material from a viable, ongoing band; a Dead audience wants to hear the old songs from the 60's-80's and would be unhappy if those old tunes were pushed aside to make room for some bland, forgettable new material.
For me, the best/most authentic part of a GD60 show would be the lot. As mentioned upthread, I'd be more interested in a celebration of the music, but played by other bands or configurations of musicians with sit-ins from Bobby and Mickey (Phil and Billy if they were interested).
But that's just, uh, like, you know, uh, my opinion, man.
