All the people you used to hang out with and go to bars/shows with have conversations about where you got your couch, home improvement projects and kids. I still have some single friends who are doing the thing. I don't really envy them, I'm proud of our DIY home improvement project we did ourselves in the early summer.

My kids are constantly reminding me that I am old and my jokes are outdated and the memes I show them are apparently not politically correct by their standards.

I used to work til 9 or 10 then go home and change or go out from there and the thought of doing that right now is crazy.

I used to go out to the State Theatre and see shows on weeknights all of the time. I stopped about 10 years ago because they would have an opener come on at 8 and the band I was there to see would start at 10, sometimes later. Now I don't even know if I would go when the band that I want to see starts at 8. It's the best part about bands that play big sheds and arenas, you know when it will start and when it will end.

^^^ It doesn't help that the State Theatre hasn't had a show you'd be interested in going to in probably 8 years. Pretty sure my last show there was LoS in 2018, with Toys, Amster and a few others.
But agreed weeknight shows are out of the question for me, unless day of and day after are work free days.

It has been a few years since leaving the house after 10 sounds fun. If I really want to go to a show I have to start on the espresso drinks around 8 or 9 and tell enough friends that they give me hell if I don't show up. If I end up in front of the TV taking my shoes off it is awfully hard getting back up and out of the house.

Probably about 15 years ago or so I saw Perpetual Groove absolutely destroy the State one night. Saw New Potato Caboose there a couple times too. My dilemma is I've been assigned Dad duty virtually every Fri and Sat for the past 7 years or so. I'm lucky if I get four Saturdays a year to myself. However! Trying something new this Saturday. I'm leaving the girls at my place for a few hours while I get down with JRAD at The Anthem. #1 just turned 14 and #2 is about to be 12. Pretty sure they'll be just fine. I NEED a f'in show big time.

As long as they have access to a phone I see no harm in that

Saturday is opening day... My 16 yo will be babysitting because Legs will be at work...
I have no problem letting my 12yo babysit too... He's pretty responsible and has a cell phone...

Go get some fun whenever you can. To paraphrase Pete Townsend; the kids are alright.

you're gonna go to a fest and pretend to be 35 again instead of 18-25. Don't want to push it.

Umphrey's played a pre-festival show in Chicago in 2021 on a Thursday. I think the show ended around 12:15 and i was in bed around 2. Most miserable work day of my life. Hard pass on the weeknight shows these days. Not worth it, i'll just take the day off if it's a can't miss rager

It's not that we can't rage the way we used to. It's that the recovery (time) is brutal instead of seamless.
If I do any amount of drinking beyond a few I don't want to have to do anything more intense than brushing my teeth the next day.

I have not drank at a festival in several years. Water, space, juice, space.... Maybe sprinkle in so fruits, veggies and fungi for nourishment..... More space and water.

Weed and space I can bounce back from, if I even need to bounce back at all. Booze.... A six-pack (maybe 12) would last me the whole festival. Drinking a lot in the hot summer sun while running around has never been my thing. Rather smoke 10 joints and eat some el with a juice chaser.
