THE MULKEY BROTHERS
In the eighties, there were a bunch of great tag teams. We had the likes of The Road Warriors, The Rock-n-Roll Express, The Midnight Express, The Fabulous Freebirds, and the list goes on and on. The one thing that most of these tag teams had in common was the fact that at one time or another, they had to step in the ring with the worst tag team ever, the Mulkey Brothers. The Mulkey Brothers consisted of real life brothers, Bill and Randy Mulkey. They would get clobbered everytime they stepped into a wrestling ring. It started getting so bad that their win/loss record was showcased every week when they wrestled. It reached 0-180 before they had a classic match with a team called the Gladiators, which consisted of George South and Gary Royal. I remember the hype of this team in promotion videos aired every week for about a month. Then it came down their much anticipated debut. A qualifying match for the Second Annual Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Tag Team Tournament pitting the heavily favored Gladiators against the Mulkey Brothers. Everyone thought that the Mulkey Brothers had no shot at victory, but then the impossible happened, the Mulkeys won!! I couldn't believe it when I watched it on TV. After years of getting beat, the Mulkeys actually won a match and qualified for the Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Tag Team Tournament. Afterwards, Mulkeymania was born. Unfortunately, the Mulkey Brothers lost in the first round to Denny Brown and Chris Champion.
I am not sure what happened to the Mulkey Brothers after that, but I do know that they resurfaced in August of 2007 for the NWA Lengends of Wrestling Tour, where they once again tasted the sweet taste of victory in a match against George South Jr. and George South Sr.
