Eating wheat definitely makes people fat. It's calorie-dense and lacks nutrients. As a society we eat way too much filler. I think the gluten-free craze really started to gain momentum from people who enjoyed the weight loss more than it did because people thought they were allergic- it's just socially easier to say you can't eat something rather than to say you're fighting off some vanity pounds. Either way, the gluten-free diet, like all modern fad diets worked better when it was new, before companies started manufacturing high calorie gluten free snacks. The moment a diet becomes mass marketed and widely attainable, people quit having to cook fresh food. Then the diet fails and fades into obscurity like Atkins, South Beach and a bunch of other forgotten diet crazes. It sucks for the small amount of people with an actual gluten allergy, now people just think they're an asshole lol.

im kind of stuck.. i love pasta but try not to eat all that much wheat but havent found a wheat free pasta a like for those meat free days. lately ive been picking either some type of potato,, pasta or waffles, or meat for my main evening meal.
in the end fresh veggies are at the top of my food pyramid but sometimes one needs to eat what one finds super yummy.

www.thehindubusinessline.com/opinion/safety-assessments-of-gmos-are-nonexistent/article7674558.eceShiva Ayyadurai: Yes, our systems analysis shows that GM soy is substantially different from non-GM soy. The critical point is that we used a systems biology approach — the first of its kind — to look at a critical molecular system called C1 Metabolism, which occurs in all plants, bacteria and fungi. In that molecular system, there are three sub-systems: methionine biosynthesis, methylation and formaldehyde detoxification. The goal of this systems approach was to explore if GM plants are the same as, or “substantially equivalent” to non-GM plants. We based the study on integrating molecular pathway information from 6,497 wet lab experiments done in 184 institutions, across 23 countries, on what occurs from genetic engineering to produce Roundup Ready Soy (RRS), the GM soy, and whether such GM causes disruption to C1 Metabolism. We found that there is a significant disruption, particularly to formaldehyde detoxification, following insertion of the foreign gene. Hansen: By the way, except in the US, there is a clear consensus globally that GM is different from natural plant breeding. There’s no debate on this issue as long as we properly agree that GM refers to the genetic engineering process/biotechnology as defined in the international Codex guidelines, which are referenced by WTO.

I kept hearing people talk about using mayo instead of butter to make grilled cheese, saying how it was so much better. I was all "grilled mayo? sounds nasty" but they kept reassuring me it was great. Just tried it. It was not bad. Hmm, interesting. My Dad is always telling me about how he puts mayo on corn-on-the-cob instead of butter and how I should try that. I keep saying I'm going to one of these days, but when it comes right down to it, I can't bring myself to do it, maybe because I just love my butter too much, I don't know. It's probably really not bad. And now I'm curious about the grilled cheese too. One of these days...... Funny how that brought us back to corn-on-the-cob... (remember the old forum?)......

No I do not. What old forum? I wish the sticking-out-the-tongue smiley was smiling a little more... instead he looks a little pissed or unamused... not what I'm going for when I use him.

Ok, so I have a food question......
The other day I found a chocolate peanut butter Easter egg (you know, the kind the churches make and sell at Eastertime) stashed away in my desk drawer. I have no idea if it's from this year or last (I would think/hope no further back than that). It is wrapped in plastic wrap. Do you think it's safe to eat?
The ingredients are on a sticker, homemade so no preservatives of course: Jiffy peanut butter, margarine, milk, chocolate, powdered sugar, vanilla extract.
I haven't eaten a thing all day... I'm starving... it's looking pretty good about now... I'm thinking as long as it doesn't smell (or taste) rancid, maybe I'm ok.
Whadayall think?

Welp, I'm gonna go make myself a bowl of deluxe ramen noodles (see the ramen thread for my recipe), and if nobody has posted their objections to my peanut butter Easter egg by the time I'm done, that's gonna be my dessert. Later......

I never did eat that peanut butter easter egg last night. After my bowl of "deluxe ramen", I was warm, so my dessert instead was Haagen Dazs (coincidentally, chocolate peanut butter). And soon after I konked out for the night. I'm eyeing that peanut butter easter egg now though... so far today I've only had a yogurt, and I'm hungry, but I don't want to eat too much, gotta stay hungry for all-you-can-eat shrimp at Red Lobster in a few hours. I'm think that egg might be just what I need to tide me over til then. And yes, Frodo, I wasn't going to just shove the whole thing in my mouth or anything... of course I'd take a bite and decide...

^ Awesome.
I keep getting sidetracked on this computer (not just on this site) and meanwhile I haven't eaten anything yet today and I've got shit to do around here. Gonna go heat up my leftover Red Lobster (shrimp linguini alfredo, fried shrimp, baked potato, cheddar biscuits) for lunch (so for $16.99 I get 2 meals really). Maybe I'll be back then, not sure.

I grilled some NY strips last night. Very much yum. I made a really easy steak sauce thing too...cream cheese and horseradish.
