I've read a bunch of stuff lately.. two worth speaking of would be Speak No Evil by Uzodinma Iweala and Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese..
Indian Horse is a movie out currently and was one of the more powerful stories I've read in some time. I was crying at the end. Never had that happen before. Would recomment. Quick read. Probably considered a young adult book for late high schoolers, but doesn't mean it's not a great book. Which it is

I'm goin thru Sylvia Plath's poems as collected by Ted Hughes. It's some witchy, ice queen and depressign shit.. Surprised by it tbh..
I didn't even know they lived around here, as did Robert Frost and Kurt Vonnegut, which I did know and been to both their homes. Also went to Twain's place in Ct.
A lot written about Plath and Hughes, from occultism to domestic abuse to miscarriages and she eventually killed herself. But, it's all there in the poetry. Eesh.
Also RIP Donald Hall. Great poet from New Hampshire who spent a spring training with Dock Ellis in the 70's writing the book Dock Ellis in the Country of Baseball. Haven't read that yet

Vonnegut lived in my hometown for a bit. He's definitely pretty big around here.

Yeah, GE was a big deal around here. Used to employ like 10,000 people or more.
I went to school with his great nephew. Not as talented.

I think he opened his first Saab dealership there.
Brilliant writer. Terrible business man.
He might be my all time favorite.

A friend of mine got a hand written note back from Mark Vonnegut after he wrote to him about how much his schizo book meant to him. I haven't read that one, I can't even think of the name of t off the top of my head

^ So, I have been preoccupied with a bunch of crap (mostly work but not all work) for the last 2 weeks and, thus, have not been jambasing--but I did keep my reading up despite the other business, and now, only have 1 book left to make my 52 in a year goal. woo hoo! I'm looking to finish number 52 this weekend actually and have a new re-reading goal set up for the coming year.

^ East of Eden was great. I like all the Steinbeck I've read in fact, but, overall, I think I prefer his comedies--like Cannery Row. But, I don't think I have liked anything of his better than Travels with Charlie--the chapters on the continental divide in New Mexico and on New Orleans (2 of my favorite places), are beautiful and heartbreaking respectively.

I am about 300 pages into Life by Keith Richards and I am enjoying it very much so far. It’s 1973 and his first taste of Mexican Shoe Scrapings after having the bombest of the bomb ass heroin and Merck brand pure cocaine for several years. Sad times ahead.
His stories and his interpretation of events are so funny. Like when the Stones went to Chess Records in Chicago and the black guy painting the ceiling was Muddy Waters and he helped carry in the stones guitars and he was like “one of my heroes is carrying my fookin guitar!” and Chess was like “no we didn’t have Muddy painting for us!” He named his son Marlon because Marlon Brando called to say how much he liked Anita’s performance in this bad movie she starred in. He was like “Marlon is a good name honey”
