This was a good book. It was written by a self-made midwestern man and hunting enthusiast who was brought in to help bring the NRA into the 21st century. What he discovered from being a board member for two years and head exec for 3.5 years was that the interior workings of the organization are a total shit show. It has become a cash cow for a Texas PR firm and a NY lawyer, and has zero plan for being a leader in gun legislation. The author recognizes that the country has had enough gun violence and school shootings, and instead of being poised to work to make things better, the NRA has used fear to drum up memberships and donations to line their own pockets. They are part of the swamp of Washington elites.

Ive been reading these:
if you have interest in ascension, or just clearing tightness out of your core being, I recommend. the 2nd one gets into the meat of it, 5 gateways. the first, breakthru I liked but its more about preparing you for the other books.
stuff like this.
Attachments program people to particular lifestyles. It is these conditioned behaviors that society then ‘preys’ upon in order to maintain ‘business as usual’. Most people consider themselves free to make choices in life, when in actual fact, choices are mostly made to placate these subtle levels of fear and sense of lack… These attachments create inner tightness and resistance to the natural fluidity of the moment. You know you are in one, when you cannot conceive of flowing freely with another option. 85 Gateway 2 HOME At this point, it is worthwhile to recognize, that you are probably reading this book because you realize, at the very least, some basic universal truths: i. That you are the One ii. That you already have everything you need within iii. That you do not require the situation to go a particular way iv. That you cannot ultimately be harmed by the worst possible outcome of any given situation – even death is merely the passing on into another form of life.

On to this: Mushrooms, Myth & Mithras: The Drug Cult that Civilized Europe
Book by Carl A. P. Ruck, José Alfredo González Celdrán, and Mark Alwin Hoffman
This illustrated book traces the history of an unlikely force in the shaping of Western civilization: the use of psychedelic mushrooms, namely by a secret society called the cult of Mithras. Nero was the first emperor to be initiated by the group’s “magical dinners,” and most of his successors embraced the ritual as a source of spiritual transcendence. The cult was officially banned after the Conversion, but aspects of their rituals were assimilated or co-opted by Christianity, and the brotherhoods persist today as secret societies such as the Freemasons. This is a fascinating exploration of a powerful force kept behind the scenes for thousands of years.

Ive been listening to Sylvia Plath Bell Jar for a while now and it just wrapped up. I need to relisten since it was so broken up over time and at least sometimes I had distractions that didnt allow me to always catch everything but it was great, loved the subject matter but mostly the way it was written and the attitude of the main character.

Recently finished The House of Mirth (Edith Wharton) and Funny Girl (Nick Hornsby) by way of Audible on the x-country drive to my Dad's funeral. Ms. Goodman wanted me to read The House of Mirth, as it's her favorite novel. It is a great book of its period: explains the cumulative multitude of decisions that can (& in the novel, do) lead to the loss of society, which was tenuous but seemingly necessary to the likes of the protagonist, who grows up in such society. Funny Girl was much lighter, but interesting writing, matched in style to the 60's sitcoms with which its characters are involved. Both books were pretty good.

It's definitely more interesting than the TV show of it. It's a page turner for sure.
Never read the Martian...

I'm reading a book about a dude who observed rats in New York City for a year. It's pretty interesting stuff, they're so damn smart. The book is called Rats (Observations on the History and Habitat of the City's Most Unwanted Inhabitants) by Robert Sullivan
