Sorry if this was posted on here, but abebooks.com is legit for used books - just picked up a copy of something that’s $17 on Amazon for $7 with free shipping! You can pretty much find everything on there

I'm almost to the end of my book about rats. Next up, for women's month, I am going to start Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde. It's a book of essays and speeches about feminism, classism and racism written by a black queen woman in the 1980s.

Martin Scorsese doc series about Fran Leibowitz, a feminist writer and icon.

Since my last book report, i have read Canada by Richard Ford (which I liked a whole lot), Bleeding Edge by Thomas Pynchon (which i didn't like very much) and am finishing The Sellout by Paul Beatty.

Catching up on canon/classics
Read Anne Frank's Diary last month Just finished Cathcher In The Rye in 2 days. I couldn't put it down because the endless monogue was so well written. It actually was kinda boring with random details and an influx of various characters, but that was comically contrasted by Caulfield's complete indifference for learning the details of other people's lives. I kept wanting to know what he was going to do next and where he was going to go. It was like reading a teenage Shia LaBeouf's thoughts in Rodney Dangerfield's voice. A quintessential novel for outsiders; depressed youth who hate school, need companionship, and are disillusioned about their future.

I read it every 3-4 years. Same dog eared copy that I boosted from my English class sophomore year.

It would be a great screenplay. Apparently they made a movie a long time ago that wasn’t very good.

Mark David Chapman definitely didnt get the memo that Holden is not a hero. He's super depressed and cant get out of it until his kid sister luckily gives him something to hope for. Looking back on it now with our current society's knowledge of mental health, its obvious to me what is happening. That boy needs therapy (and one of his friends who's dad is a psychoanalyst mentions it in the book towards the end) but the Holden character is very accessible and I get why people would identify with him. But the takeaway is not supposed to be that we should kill people we perceive as phony...

I read it on a roundtrip cross country flight when I was in my 30's. I remember thinking "man I wish somebody would have made me read this when I was a teenager..." I think it's incredible.
I did have a really cool 8th grade teacher who made us read all of the SE Hinton books.
Stay golden Pony Boy.
