TTB makes the most of their two drummers. I find it hard to take my eyes off them.

For me a lot has to do with the context. I'd give the nod to 2 drummers for a drum solo. Maybe for a jam, or a song that is more of a jamming vehicle, such as The Eleven, or The Other One. Sometimes I think one drummer in a jam is fine. For a straight up song, I think the song was often better served by one drummer. A song like UJB doesn't really benefit from two drummers. Billy could do with it what he wanted, change the tempo on a whim. With Mickey they tended to lock into a more pedestrian beat on the songs and weren't able to turn on a dime, as it's been said.
I wonder why the dynamic changed from the late 60's incarnation to the Rhythm Devils? Change from an emphasis on blues based jamming vehicles to an emphasis on more standard, melody based songs? Influence of the disco beat that was prevalent in the mid to late 70's? Maybe it's just as simple as everyone was more burned out by that point and the interest to be as complex as it was before just wasn't there anymore.

Mickey is my favorite, hahaha I just like that he goes weird, and his solo stuff is what made me like him so much. Used to have a ot of it during the early DL thread stuff. I dont own any music anymore. He might suck, idk His solo stuff is great. Love the world influence renditions of dead tunes and it gets good and weird at times. I saw his superorganism deal at a super small venue with like 50 people there. 7 Walkers was good too though. Pretty much like all the solo projects post dead better than the combined efforts with a few exceptions.

When he died Jer wanted to cash it in. Would've missed out on a lot of great music but I will say them with Pigpen is my favorite era.
