swifty sure spends alot of time scouring L ron hubbard vids.. something smells in denmark. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Living in LA in the early 90's during the cult's peak in popularity you couldn't help but know at least one $cientologist. Unfortunately, I lost a good friend to $cientology. He got so deep into it that he wound up joining the Sea Org (their religious order) and disconnecting from all of his friends and family. Last we heard he was supposedly shipped off to some distant $cientology location, never to be seen or heard from again. Since then I've been an active critic of the cherch. Cults and the bizarre have always interested me. It's like my version of your better than average knowledge of Monsanto and their practices and fluoride; nothing smelly in Denmark about it. After years of being an active critic, you wind up with a more in depth understanding of the cult's beliefs and practices than the average person who just knows them for Cruise, Travolta, and Kirstie Alley, which is why I'm familiar with Hubbard videos where he too likes to contemplate and talk about his belief that aliens are enslaving humanity and his version of what you described as soul-catching nets. I don't have a problem with their kooky sounding beliefs. To me all religions have beliefs that sound kooky be it walking on water, virgin birth, etc.. It's their practices I criticize. $cientology is an organization that mirrors the paranoia and delusional behaviour of it's founder and it's their paranoia that leads them to do all sorts of nasty stuff. tonyortega.org/

The original theatrical release or the director's cut? The differences make for almost two different movies. It's been awhile. Need to watch it again. directors cut. Which one should I be watching? I just saw its up on netflix, they have the theatrical cut. (what does that mean?)

Gotta hand it to the cult. They can make a hell of a film.
Battlefield Earth is 4 plus hours of gripping storytelling.

Anybody ever encounter those insect like entities that you KNOW are just under the surface of your skin, and that if you just keep scratching and scratching and scratching, faster and faster and faster, harder and harder and harder they'll go away? I've only heard about them, but it doesn't sound like a fun time. 'A Scanner Darkly' even has an Alex Jones cameo! I have witnessed a person dig their arms and legs open with coke bugs. Its a horrible thing to see.

Gotta hand it to the cult. They can make a hell of a film. Battlefield Earth is 4 plus hours of gripping storytelling. And they only filmed half of the book. They were planning on making a sequel to cover the other half, but when it bombed at the box office and became considered one of the worst films ever made they decided against any sequel. It was so bad, it's almost worth watching 20 or 30 minutes just to see how bad it truly is.

Any laughs you get have to be conceptual.

I find the film concept intriguing, I enjoy the vision of the future but at times the plot seems to drag....

I remember liking it more for the overall feel and look then the plot, which was pretty basic. If you thought the plot dragged in one version, you'd probably find it dragged it the other, but since you just saw it over the weekend seeing it again might clear some things up (if they weren't clear the first time?) and/or allow you to focus on the overall visuals or concept. I'd watch it again, but that's me and I haven't seen it in years. Hope I can get the latest 'Final Cut' version, though I'm pretty much stuck with what's available on DVD/Bluray down here. I think the issues with the plot is one of the reasons they first put the voiceover in in the first place.

As someone who once read a book written by a scientist, I must say I can not take anything on faith that I have not experienced myself.
