If Buffalo won the Super Bowl against the Redskins then canonically Lisa wouldn't love her dad. This is the reason why the 1992 Bills lost in real life. (S3E13 Lisa The Greek)

If Buffalo won the Super Bowl against the Redskins then canonically Lisa wouldn't love her dad. This is the reason why the 1992 Bills lost in real life. (S3E13 Lisa The Greek) The episode accurately predicted the Skins would win, and the next year when it re-aired they overdubbed it with the Cowboys who also defeated the Bills in January 1993. The accurate predictions continued until 1995. The claims of the above video that Flaming Moe is the first perfect episode and that Season 3 is the beginning of the Golden Age of the Simpsons got me watching them again. I would argue that this cannot be the golden age because while the stories, animation, and gags are excellent, the town of Springfield and its characters are still not fully developed. This is clearly evidenced by the random friend of Bart does not make another appearance, and the deep-voiced commentary of Ralph in S3. This is offset by legendary gags such as the Wolfcastle scene with Homer in the video rental store and Homer prancing in the Land of Chocolate, so I can see the argument but I think town of Springfield as a town is still being fleshed out as the writers move away from the sitcom family model and begin writing more character stories of other residents.

The true climax of the early episodes for me is Season 7's A Fish Called Selma. I also disagree with the notion that the end of the golden age is with Season 9's Skinner episode that disrupts continuity by having the fake Seymour stay on as the Principal, but I'll save that for another day...

S4E12 is the fruition of the Simpsons development as an entire town, an ecosystem, and a sandbox for creative writers. It took Conan o'Brien to pen this masterpiece and they cynicism of American life is still as biting today as it was in 1993. The mob has spoken: monorail.

Sometimes there are a set of episodes that work really well together and often they come in threes. The first instance I believe would be in Season 3. Also, in Season 6 with E7 Bart's Girlfriend, E8 Lisa on Ice and E9 Homer Badman, AKA the Venus gummy di Milo episode, are another great tryptic of engrossing story lines and great gags that somehow possess a flow or congruence to them despite not having a plot that specifically continues between.
