In season ten's Halloween Special IX, the final short story is where the alien Kang is Maggie's real father, and Maggie broadcasts a signal to the alien ship in space. When they zoom out from the Simpson house to show the signal, the approximate location of the town in the United States is clear. That location is Springfield, Lousiana, a small town in the Baton Rogue census area with a 2010 population of just under 500.
S10E12 Guest stars Dolly Parton, John Madden, Pat Summerall, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino, Rupert Murdoch, Rosey Grier, and impersonations of Vincent Price and Bill Clinton. Homer and his friends take a party bus to the Super Bowl with many hijinks. They end up in the winning locker room and Homer answers a congratulatory phone call from the president. Being an election year, Al Gore can be seen in the background measuring the drapes which is a depressing gag in retrospect since we now know he would have actually been the executive in chief had the courts allowed the Florida recount to proceed instead of awarding it to the loser in 2000.
S4E17 Last Exit To Springfield. Truly a great episode. It checks all of the boxes: a Homer vs. Mr. Burns story, a Lisa sub-plot, gags galore, a reoccurring song, movie homages including the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the Three Stooges, nitrous humor and more.
Catching up on recent episodes of Jeopardy last night and Joseph of Arimathea was an answer and I immediately started laughing, which I then had to explain to no avail.
