How many characters is that now? One voice actor passed recently too right? And Hank Azaria got 'canceled' a while back didn't he?
Would i even recognize the characters voices if I watched today?

Hank didn't get cancelled. He stopped voicing Apu and Carl after a documentary about white actors voicing characters of color came out. He willingly stopped doing both and still voices about 20 characters on the show.

To be honest, it was Apu who got cancelled. They never named a replacement voice actor because his entire character was based on stereotypes. Thank you, come again.

Sigh...now I can't speak for all people of Indian/middle eastern backgrounds and up bringing, but I can't imagine that one cartoon character had that many of them riled up

Sigh...now I can't speak for all people of Indian/middle eastern backgrounds and up bringing, but I can't imagine that one cartoon character had that many of them riled up If the character stereotyped anyone it was those type of corner store owners because every little corner store, or whatever you want to call it, i've been to, including the one that's down the street from us, the guys can be like that. I had an Indian best friend growing up and him and his family though Apu was hilarious. His mom was also a surgeon and I don't remember what his dad did but something high up the corporate ladder. I always loved a good Apu storyline |

He literally based the character on bodega store owners in LA that he encountered when he moved out there. Hari Kondabolu did a documentary about how the stereotype was hurtful to people in his community and Azaria took it to heart.
