So I've never been able to hit a driver, but I'm only 10-15 yards behind the two guys I usually play with when I swing my 3 wood off the tee. I hit 'em good on Friday, mostly in the fairway, but when I miss with the 3 wood...I miss a lot. It either slices into the next fairway or I turn the clubhead over and pull it way left, usually not exceeding about 3' in altitude.
Just found out recently that there's a really nice driving range about 3 minutes from my house, so I plan on tuning up my skills there.

just gotta do what works for you. i was noticing at the range a couple weeks ago, that everyone has a different swing pretty much. so long as you can make it work for your game, who cares.
as for correcting the 3 wood...*shrug emoji*. i usually opt for my 5 wood over my 3, in 99% of situations lol.

I should try that sometime but I'm not really all about spending big money on golf clubs.

Being able to reach a green in regulation vs. trying to get up and down for par.
On days that I can't hit the 3 wood straight, sure I'll keep it in the bag and go for the 5...but my default is to use the 3 wood until it starts failing me (or I fail it, rather).

I should also mention that I haven't hit my 5 wood well this year yet...so there's that too.

like i said, gotta do what works for your game. and my 3 wood is not in those plans currently.
and lets be real, its always the club or ball's fault, never your own when you hit a bad shot.

What's a round of golf cost you in your area? Most of my rounds end up being $30-40 but some courses command more, like up to $60 for a round. My go to course is: www.bataviacc.com

on average, around the same, $25-40, a bit more with a cart. i try to keep it around $50 with a cart for 18. or i'm gonna try to go out for twilight more, when rates are cheaper. there are obviously nicer courses as well that are much more, and quite a few private clubs in the area too. i'm playing this course saturday, never been, but my boss said its a really nice course for the price. www.chomonix.com/
