I waited too long on mine. I germinated them in coconut husk planers. I didnt get them in the ground till probably middle to late june. They were starting to root themselves. When did you get yours planted? Ive seen some in my area that are huge like your talking about too.

somewhere around early/ mid may i think.. i do believe sunflowers are best direct sewn so that may have been the issue with the transplant. didnt root proper.
we have some smaller ones, maybe 6 ft that are starting to flower.
i dont have the right phone cable here at work or id put a pick up.. the 15fter is by the grapes who are climbing all over it.
though now that i think about it, the mammoth i did not plant.. it sprung up on its own... ive been planting sunflowers in that area for years.

I didn't plan well and my box barely gets 6 hours of full sun a day. I have some peppers coming on, but the deer stunted my cherry mates before I caged off the box. They are just now putting off a second round of blooms. Planted some herbs. This thing has been a lot of work and might not produce much this season. Doh!

No offense, but that type of cucumber should be eaten while it is still green. Typically once it starts to turn yellow it is not consider fit to eat. To each his own, I guess.

To each his own, I guess. i have strains of cucumbers that are not fit to eat til they turn yellow. anyway,,, i just juice them.. and i can tell you my juice this morning was pretty tasty.. so not sure on the whole eating part but it juiced up nicely. ive given my neighbors ones that were green and turned almost all white.. they loved it.. i had previously given him an all green one and he said not ready. so who knows. i have 5 diff strains planted.. what strain is that? i think it varies.. anyway, it very well may not be good if you eat it, not sure. will never know but it taste good in the juice

The first pic didn't look like a yellow variety. I have grown lemon cucs. The green ones typically lose firmness and start to taste like a gourd. That might actually be better to juice with.

To each his own, I guess. well i took that to heart as i want to learn all i can about gardening.. i suspect the light in my kitchen was improper.. here is a shot in natural light.. i think this makes it look lots better.. does it look better now?

harvested my carrots.. kind of got away from me.. ive been trying the patch method but far to hard to weed.. going to many small rows next year. we got what carrots we could, maybe a dozen and whacked down ever thing else.. think i may til that area.. i dont till all that often. dont like to upset the local soil biosphere
my juice this morning was all gardnen.. couple strains of kale, red and orange carrots, beet and beet greens and a cucumber.
i have a massive yellow cuke going like the pic above only much mush larger.. picking that tomorrow.
so much cuke juice

What kind of juicer do you own? And do you like it or would you recommend a different one? I've put off buying one for too long mostly because I don't want to be immediately shopping for a better one.

This is what Im working with. Saucer squash?, butternut, and crook neck? Crooked neck I think is best as decoration. It too hard to cut through. Im sure some Ogre somewhere loves them...

I've put off buying one for too long mostly because I don't want to be immediately shopping for a better one. i own an omega 8004 i think, vertical slow masticating juicer.. does real well on greens. does an okay job on fruits, softer stuff. id like the opening for food to be wider.. have to cut down carrots alot.. all and all we are happy with it.. gets alot of use.
