I like Terry Bozzio as well for Zappa drummers. Still doin cool stuff w The Melvins and Mike Patton Ive met Terry Bozzio a handful of times and I emcee'd one of his clinics at Guitar Center Phoenix and then took he and his wife to a shitty dinner at Hooters afterwards. He is such a nice guy. He has a cool portable drum kit that the frame is on wheels. It is about a quarter the size of his huge ass drum kit. This guy has cymbals in the band. A quarter of the size of the SS Bozio is probably equal to 3x a normal sized kit. bozio's played with some greats and is pretty great himself. |

I saw Vinnie C play with Herbie Hancock. Dude was unreal and the only one in the band who looked like he just got out of bed. I'd love to see him play with Jeff Beck some day, their chemistry is out of this world.
Brian blade is the best drummer ive ever seen live with Billy Cobham in a VERY close second.
So many great jazz drummer don't know where to start.
And gotta give credit where credit is due, hate or love Umphreys, Kris Myers is an insanely talented drummer...hands down one of the best and his jazz chops are really up there too.

Vinnie C of course is Jedi level drumming but I haven't seen him live except vids. Billy Cobham I saw with Jazz is Dead and it was amazing watching him and holy shit he hits so fucking hard when he gets going. Kris Myers is an incredibly gifted drummer that can be the perfect metronome at any speed and he is absolutely effective at mimicking nearly any other drummer which is why Umphreys kills covers. I have so many favorite drummers from Abe to Zoro. Garibaldi is in my top 5 but it's hard to zoom in on that contest. Tim Alexander is another top five for me. |

One of the best drum solos I ever witnessed live was muthafuckin Chad Sexton at a muthafuckin 311 concert!

Stanton Moore needs some love! I've seen that guy do things on drums I've never heard anyone else do. He's got some serious chops.
