My parents were both batshit crazy. The had money though. So they started taking me out of the country with at like age 6. They took me to places like Jamaica, and Mexico, in the 70s. They took me to Jamaica 13 times. They used to take me to NYC all the time. So I saw poverty. Abject poverty. Once when I was 7 they took me one night to a nightclub in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Bob Marley was playing. I was the youngest of 8 most of my siblings I do not know and several have already passed. My two brother closest in age to me are 9 and 10 years older then me, the older one made sure I never really believed in Santa, the Easter bunny or the tooth fairy. I have the asperger's so I got bullied, there was no antibullying or inclusion back in the 70s. I was considered to be the craziest, most socially awkward, most violent, most intelligent kid in the Kinnelon NJ school system. I went to military schools, two of them. I signed up for every bit of combat training I could possibly qualify for. I learned. I discovered marijuana one summer's day. Then LSD and then the Grateful Dead. I left home right after getting booted from the second military school. Ter. Wookery. Laying paper with no gloves, in a van in Summer, in Kansas. Then the arrests convictions And then college. Learned lot of shit about making droogs. Dropped out of college. Commenced to making drugs. More busts. Prison. Back to manufacturing drugs. Spent about 25 years live south of the Mason Dixon line. Finally I arrive here.
All those experiences shaped me into who I am today. I think it's bad to lie to children. I'm the militant dead-spread head, ex con, burn out loser that every one said I would become. And do you know what the majority of adults who told an autistic child that he would never amount to anything cited as my primary weakness? They would say,"you know what Everett, you know what your biggest problem is? You're too Smart for your own good."
I don't know if any of that had anything to do with me not believing in Santa Clause...

I just hacked back into my gmail account. Which they say is near impossible. if it wasn’t your acct, could you do the same thing? Or was it your security question you remembered and basically hacked your memory for it?

I teach kids w/Aspergers/Autism Spectrum among other kinds. and they are by far my favorite...They vary greatly, but some are like sponges that just soak everything up...very enjoyable to teach...curious, etc... Sounds like you've seen a lot of shit...so welcome to one of the cooler & kinder places on these here Innernetz...

My parents were of a seventh day adventist offshoot that did not celebrate holidays. So all through school holidays were awkward. I even got called a satanist by a few really dumb kids for not doing christmas.
I cannot see where telling kids that make beleive characters are real, not to mention somehow related to religion. Im sure that has contributed to more than a few confused adults. Probably easier to make them a good patriotic murican if the have a strong belief in santa.
I have not given my kids any religion other than a strong respect for all forms of life. We have discussions about different beliefs and they understand we all have different backgrounds.
So far they are all very loving little humans.

I reckon in this era it will be harder to keep children innocent for long.... the internet has changed everything..
These kids have smart devices at such young ages now...

I'm not going to try and ruin my daughter's innocence, I just know myself and I am sure I will slip up and say Santa isn't reall.
Living in a Jewish house hold I never once believed any of that stuff was real and since it was never around the house I didn't care much for any of that. I did think the tooth fairy was real until maybe about 8 though.
As for the 10 year old boy showering with his sister and having to be supervised i will see if my wife can do some digging on the issue. I just find if odd that a 10 year old can't shower on how own, let alone have to be supervised. I think the last time I showered with my brother I was 8 and he was 3 and he peed on me...it was over after that

I am sure in most cases the kids are bright enough to figure it out pretty young. And then there is probably a few that believe a bit too much.

I haven't slept at home in 5 nights. This is a good thing. Not sure if I've ever been this happy just getting to know someone.
(Mushy update over)
