I know a lotta y’all are in/around Chicago… it’s a city I’ve always wanted to visit and I will be doing so July 2-3. I don’t have tons of time unfortunately but wanna cram as much as I can into that time. Looking for one super nice dinner, the best pizza, breweries/wineries/distilleries, museums, sights to see, etc. And it looks like the Claypool/Budos show on 7/2 is sold out so leads on a pair of tix for that would also be appreciated. Or any other good local music spots. Also want to know what neighborhoods to avoid cuz I’ve heard there’s a few of those. Any other random tidbits of information much appreciated

Millennium Park, the bean. Etc. IS actually sort of cool. Art museum right there is 9ne of my faves. Then wander over to field museum and spend, go check out the prairies on northerly Island along the lake.
Garfield Park conservatory is cool, Chicago botanical garden is cool. Morton Arboretum is out at Glenbard area but is worth the visit.
Other than that I only go to concerts or cubs games.
Chicago dog stand at field museum is legit. I always dance for ketchup!

Participate in the culture. Side swipe parked cars. Tailgate people who are already doing 20mph over the speed limit. Hit pedestrians.

So if you want museums, obviously you have the Field, Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, Art Institute, Adler Planetarium, both zoos etc. All good but they can easily eat up your time. If you’re over in that area you have Grant Park and Buckingham Fountain too.
Boat Architecture tours are cool especially in the summer. Millennium Park is cool and they usually have music during the summer. Or cool art installations.
My fave brewery is Revolution. Stay out of the south side. Unless you want to go to a Sox game but you should probably just go to a cubs game if you want baseball. Are you looking for deep dish or what we actually eat which is thin crust?

Interesting - I love thin crust pizza but don’t typically associate it with Chicago. Feel like I should try a good deep dish spot but I def want the local favorites. Is there a best of both worlds kinda spot?

I have always wanted to see the Lions of Tsavo if they still reside at the Fields Museum. The movie Ghost and the Darkness got me intrigued by that story.

I like deep dish. I even buy it frozen and even sometimes make my own at home with store bought dough. Cheesy, bready and rich. I'd say get both the recommended deep style AND then try the recommended tavern style. Both are good experiences and I wouldn't say one is empirically better than the other.

Both are good but deep dish is like special occasion pizza and thin crust is everyday pizza.

Oh yeah, deep dish requires a nap afterward. Best done after eating an edible an hour before eating. Make sure you have a DD and tums...

If you're gonna have deepdish Pequods is the only way! Go find some tavern style by wherever you're staying. If you want to make the trek Vito and Nicks is the best Tavern style pizza in Chicago, it's on the south side though but it is aboslutely worth the trip! Don't go South of Pilsen, any northside neighborhood will be fine. Half Acre and Hop Butcher are probably the 2 best Chicago breweries, currently. Hopleaf is the best place to get beer and food if you like craft beer.
I can recommend a million restaurants and million things to do and I know my way around the city like the back of my hand, shoot me a PM or just tell me where you're staying here and I'll tell you what to do.
100% it'll be easy to get a ticket to that claypool show.
Chicago is the greatest city in the united states!
