It's for the children. I don't care about it at all, but apparently there has been pretty big interest in it from the fans, especially younger ones.

I don't get the tournament What is it for? the players are basically playing for a paid trip to vegas in the middle of the season and 500k to each player on the winning team. doesn't seem like a lot of money for pro athletes but for the end of bench guys its huge. and you can tell the players are playing harder in these games, compared to a regular game. i just think the courts are hideous, they should have just had a logo on them like for the playoffs, instead of these wacky colors that look like a 10 year old made them on nba 2k. |

The tourney to me is something, along with the team fines, the NBA had to come up with to keep these prima donnas motivated to actually play close to a full season of games instead of “rest” games or “my vagina hurts”. They are basically having to beg them with the offer of more money to offset any bad optics of just straight up fines. Maybe I am overthinking it.

I think trying to curb load management is definitely part of the reason they tried the in season tourny. They even went as far as implementing new rules regarding load management this year, so you're not too far off.
But they'll brand it as some new "cool" thing and I think it's generated better interest in November nba games than normal, which is the ultimate point right? Get people talking about it...

White may be deserving, but the NBA All-Star game is tough to break in to. Not that many guys make the team, stars almost always get selected, even when they don't deserve it and they never want to take too many guys from the same team.
