…and we had hogans>mash>barney miller I sometimes think the lack of options binds our generation in a way that kids today don't experience because they have a zillion more entertainment optionss. We all watched the same old sitcom reruns, MTV, had the same stores in our malls, etc.

Original "latch key kids" before the term was invented. Apparently this is inaccurate. However... "The term latchkey kid became commonplace in the 1970s and 1980s to describe members of Generation X who, according to a 2004 marketing study, "went through its all-important, formative years as one of the least parented, least nurtured generations in U.S. history." Whatever. Nevermind

There was a time in my childhood when I had a 13” black & white TV in my room…… with HBO.
I was a king.

We had a small sun room above the back porch - no heat. Room for a twin bed, my dresser, a radio and a night stand. In the Spring I would move in there, out of the "large" second bedroom I shared with my brothers. In the late Fall, I would have to move back into the bedroom and we would seal "my room" off from the winter.
In the summer with all of windows open and if the wind was right you could hear the roar of Niagara Falls.

Local access Channel 29 Hogan's Heros, Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, The Munsters, Star Trek(!] Ponderosa, The Rifleman and what seemed like endless hours of Tom and Jerry this is funny to me because I had basic cable growing up years later than you but I watched all those same old shows because they were still running them on "nick at night". Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo and all the Hanna Barbera stuff also. Gomer Pyle, MASH etc
