Seemed like they did well enough to keep things going.
I had about as much fun as ever.
Cutting out the hiking back a forth from moonshine to sunshine/star shine probably saved my feetsies a bit too.
Best weather ever. Heavy rain early in the day on days 2 and 4 kept the dust matted down but it didn’t get muddified. Perfection.

The tent slasher post is also crazy and worth a read

10 years ago, basically this weekend, the wife and I first got to know each other, at Scamp. We attended the fest 3 years together and it holds a special place in our hearts, but at this point in our lives, if we get a long weekend away from the kids there are other things we probably would rather do than go camping at a festival. I know we will go to one together down the road but at this time we'd rather spend our time doing other things. As far as the festival scene as a whole, it is an oversaturated and overpriced market and with hundreds and hundreds of these festivals to choose from, from basically April to November, it's hard to sustain any sort of success unless your lineup really outdoes itself year after year. I think Scamp rebranded for 2 reasons. The first being that they wanted to step away from the Umphrey's/Moe. festival layout and branch out to try and become a much bigger festival rather than having 2 bands, whose popularity is dwindling, be to 2 of the main headliners. I believe both bands will announce that next year will be their last years being regular acts at Solshine fest. I also believe that Summercamp has struggled financially since before the Pandemic and because the Goldbergs have so much financial backing they were able to stay afloat. The plan is to become more of a festival like Electic Forests where electronic music is the focus with various mainstream acts mixed in. I think within the next 5 years Sol festival will be completely different than what we remember Scamp being or it won't exist at all It kind of depends on how one chooses to look at it. I don't think it's so much that both bands popularity is dwindling...

Glad I did a ton of fests when I was younger and the lineups were generally more to my liking, but given the opportunity I'd much rather go to a show now. At bare minimum I'd want to be in a nice RV, but a nearby hotel would be better. And it'd have to be a really good lineup. Hope they stick around and don't go too out of favor. Everyone under a certain age should experience at least one.

But I do love that at a festival you can be a total spunion and just go to the next stage or back to camp and not have to even think about cars or traffic.

Imagine living in a van with a cane corso. Poor thing My presa canario likes to ride shotgun and tries to hold hands the whole ride. Can't imagine living in a van with her unless she got a good 10 mile walk in every day.

I don't think it's so much that both bands popularity is dwindling... I mean.... a little of A, a little of B. It's not news that I used to be UM's biggest fluffer on here but I eventually realized that wasting so much time focusing on one band is a...waste of time...and there's so much great music out there. UM is still my favorite live band and after 105ish shows they still amaze me when I see them but I hardly listen to them on my free time anymore and other than the Dead, and occasionally Phish, I rarely ever listen to jam music these days. As far as both UM and Moe. go they are both on very similar trajectories but Moe. is much farther along with their decline. I think the fact of the matter is that the music and festival markets are over saturated. If you make music there are a million different avenues you can take to get your music out there that is nearly impossible for artists/musicians to stay relevant for more than 5 years. It's even worse for the jam scene because it is oversaturated with the same sounding cookie cutter bands. Younger crowds aren't clinging to the jam scene like they did 15 years ago and bands like UM and Moe. are watching their fanbase get older and older with fewer younger kids joining the mix. It is what it is.

I wasn't thinking about it in depth - it's just nearly impossible for me to resist using a Spinal Tap reference when tossed an easy to hit softball. But I agree with what you say. I wonder if there'll ever be a new Tier 1 jamband on the scale of the Dead or Phish or if jam is now just a sub-genre of a sub-genre. I guess Goose is one of the few (only?) newer bands who can consistently play larger venues (as opposed to one-offs like playing at Red Rocks), but are they a band that can maintain that success for 40/50 years, or are they just enjoying a moment of fame?
You mentioned over saturation...
