Why do tox reports take "weeks?" They really can take even longer than that. We had to go through this when my brother in law passed. There are SO many things they have to test and cross reference with medical records. And autopsies take forever anyway- there is a really specific process to the whole thing. And sometimes, months later, they still don't know anything.

I think it's also overload on the labs. Most police departments outsource this stuff to private testing facilities. It's not like CSI where the detective working the case runs back to the office and solves the case with DNA 15 minutes later.
