Haters gon Hate, more nostalgia for me to eat up. I think I saw them live 4 times and each show was better than the last. The Sphere is an experience in itself, and one of those few instances where you really aren't just going to a show for the music, so if you're expecting something new I would look elsewhere. I would still go and have the time of my life. This is all practice for Bobby and Mickey anyways because there will be fare thee well shows next year for GDF60

Nostalgia for something that never was? Nostalgia for something we're supposed to be feeling nostalgia for that the band (the source of this nostalgia) was always vehemently against and never did? If they're going to play repeat shows I think it's left the realm of nostalgia and is now something completely different. Which isn't hate, more an observation, but it isn't really a nostalgic experience either. It just is what it is. A band that never in 30 years of the original band and kissing distance to 30 more years of offshoots that have never once repeated a show because it went against their ethos of improv and creating something new every show is now, deep into the eleventh hour of their collective existence, turning it's back on that value that is a big part of what made them special (or at least different) in the first place. Maybe their thing is that they're keeping it fresh and doing something new and different by playing repeat shows? Probably not a big deal for most who'll go, and esp. if it's the only show they see there, but what a truly rare experience for those who go multiple nights and realize they're seeing the same exact show they recently saw. Wonder if any of those rare few will think #ripoff or will they just not care. Now that Dead & Co. are doing repeats, what's the next thing they (or other jambands) potentially ditch? Jamming and improv so that it sounds just like the album versions? High ticket prices don't really bother me that much, slowed down tempos and arrangements are what they are (a creative decision) and can be expected with musicians pushing 80, but repeat shows are a completely unnecessary sell-out. So much for the talking point about how every single show over all these many years is completely unique.

if i had to guess they probably have a few to a handful of setlists ready to go for the sphere shows so the visuals match the song. maybe they truly just cash grab and play the same set every show. trey was quoted in some interview that the sphere shows were the first shows for them where they had the setlist planned, presumably for the visuals. granted i think from night to night on tour they have an idea of what songs to play, but its different with a gigantic visualizer behind the band that the whole audience is looking at.

Improv with that kind of tech sounds like a nightmare logistically. People would probably be upset if they were paying hundreds for tickets and the state of the art venue was stuck in a 404 error or some glitched out shit.

The thing about nostalgia is it should hopefully capture the essence of whatever your being nostalgic about. Such as playing songs at the same tempo as they were written or amazing improvisation. If I want to reminisce about what made a grateful dead show special it could actually be better captured by seeing jrad and closing my eyes.
There was a moment about a week ago the wife and I almost bought tickets. The tickets and airfare were reasonable. The cost of spending a whole weekend in Vegas made it way over budget and I really kinda hate that city.

If they spent a gazillion bucks on this place and can't control a menu of preprogrammed visuals with a keyboard on the fly, they fucked up.

I'd get nostalgia all over my pants. I've been listening to this because I love the original album so much and the related non-album material they played is just as enjoyable. archive.org/details/joerussoshooterollplus2017-04-07.cmc621.cmc641vxt.sbd.matrix.flac16/joerussoshooterollplus2017-04-07.cmc621.cmc641vxt.sbd.matrix-s2t08.flac

"The Show" was always in my mind, created by the music.
That's always been "The Show"...

Grateful shred is also very capable. Although I don't believe they are a full time band. I think they are what happens when circles around the sun and mapache get together. Both also great on their own.

Jrad is great. I dig what dead n slow does too though. At this point, with the rarity in which I go to shows, these days, I'd be happy seeing either live and would enjoy the ride either way
