I was sort of kind of liking this but then as it got to around to the end of Dew the band's playing and the visuals just seemed so synched up, and then what followed.... This is the most choreographed I've ever seen a Dead related band. Like a Vegas revue. Other than timing something for a NYE countdown I've never seen them where they have to hit their marks - or ever even wanted to have to do so as opposed to just letting the music play out naturally. Not complaining, just an observation, it is what it is, or has become.

It really bugs me, on an ocd level, that after all this time they're gonna repeat shows now.

Maybe it helps to not look at them as being tGD, but a cover band with 1.5 original tGD members who are doing a Broadway style musical version of tGD material in a Vegas Revue without (so far) showgirls?
I get that putting on a show at the Sphere creates limitations for a heavily improv band, but it it's forcing them to repeat shows maybe they should've scheduled fewer shows to avoid repeats.
Instead of bitching on reddit, social media, etc., I'm protesting by listening to old Jerry Band shows.

I'm a disagree with the improv band part, the sphere should open up more possibilities, you can (I'd imagine) broadcast almost anything on to it
30 years of Originality and 30 more in all the sub set n patch worked together outfits should
Equal 14 days not repeating shows, sure a song or 3 but actual shows?
Cmon ....

In one of the interviews with Trey about the sphere he mentioned practicing surprise changes with the visual artist. So there has to be some level of improvisation available. Again. I'm not surprised Mayer and Co. chose an easier cut and paste approach. What is sad is I have no doubt there has to be several capable and talented artists that could do way better at delivering an original grateful dead quality experience, but they are mostly a cover band. I guess who knows. Maybe they are saving some surprises.

John Mayer is just lame. It is wild to think this dude had never listened to a Grateful Dead song less than a decade ago and now he is an integral part of all, musically and business related. I would never under any circumstance tell a musician of any genre/persuasion to hang it up or end it, etc etc because it’s their right to put themselves out there and if people want to purchase a ticket, then so be it, but man that Chicago finale with Trey was perfect. The torch carrier from Jerry and really the only person that made sense to do it going out there with everybody and doing it right. And I know I am saying the same old shit….🤪….there are some kids on my lawn and one is wearing headphones like Mayer wears and I want to hit him.

I enjoyed Dead and Co.
They have overstayed their welcome.
That said, I hope my brother has an amazing experience when he goes to his Sphere show.

I don't mind repeating songs - tGD played the same songs night after night on certain tours. But repeating an entire show? Because your visual show demands it? Now you're just like KISS or any other band that relies on a heavy visual presentation "show," or just a lazy band that only rehearsed the show before taking it out on the road. I'll make exceptions for when bands do a full album show or the music is more complex and the musicians only rehearsed a certain number of hard to play songs, but never repeating a show was a defining point of the band.
I can see being able to adjust the visuals (esp. if they're more abstract as opposed to telling a story), like Phish did. But the visuals on that Morning Dew video I saw were not sped up or slowed down to match when the band decided to end the song - the band played a version of Dew that was a set amount of time and they probably had some kind of cues telling them when they needed to wrap it up right down to the second. If they're playing on TV which has strict timing to account for commercials it's one thing, but to change up the whole show to become something they were always against, and going against the whole ethos of the band, that's a step too far, afaic.
That said, I'm sure the sound and visuals are incredible.
