I heard they recorded an album of all new material.
No, I didn’t hear that. Just thought about it.

It's amazing that back in the 80's tGD were considered by the media/public at that point to be a nostalgia act surviving off their early work; the S.F. psychedelic/dr00gy version of fellow 60's CA nostalgia act The Beach Boys. Bully for those Caucasians for defying the odds and cashing in instead of having to resort to selling insurance or go back to playing bars and county fairs like most bands who just fade away. Start saving now, indeed.
Is Billy going to have anything to do with these Sphere or potential 60 year anniversary shows, or is he retired and just chilling in Hawaii growing weed and playing the occasional bar gig for fun?
What does the rumor mill say about Phil taking part in any anniversary shows? Is Mayo the assumed lead guitar player, or will they bring someone else in? If it's Mayo I'd assume his controlling interest and profit participation in D&C wouldn't extend to tGD.

All that matters is John Mayer will be there to help navigate a Dark Star or 3.

They should consider playing recordings of some excellent early 70s shows and just let the band be part of the audience.

I've only listened to some of the Fare Thee Well shows, when they were played and never once again after that since there weren't any versions of the songs that really stood out and made me want to hear them again.
However, I've listened to the between sets music a whole bunch of times since those shows.

Listening to the D&C 2018 Eugene show cuz it's said to be better than average. Still in the first set, but it's alright, I guess. Second set looks good on paper so fingers crossed.
Came across an interview from Joe Russo answering a question about his time with Further:
There were many times where, at the same moment, Bob would be telling me to slow down and Phil would be telling me to speed up. It was a little stressful. There was a learning curve, and it was learning how to interact with these two amazing, larger-than-life people. I didn’t want to let down either of these guys, but they were asking me for different things at the same time.
So what did you do?
I would play at the same tempo, but I would make an “I’m psyched" face at Phil, and a sleepy face at Bob.

Listened to that D&C show. Wasn't exactly face stealing, but it was well played. Second set was all > > > from beginning to end. Sounded kind of like Ratdog channeling 1976 tGD playing a 1971 second set. The Dark Star was like those dreamy Fall '73 versions. Bass was a bit low in the mix would be my big complaint. Mayo didn't annoy me at all compared to other times I've heard him with this band. Not having listened to enough D&C to make a fair judgement I don't know where it'd fall on a 1-10 scale compared to other shows, but as long as the ticket prices were comparatively reasonable I'd of felt like I got my $ worth from the music and not just for the opportunity to hang on lot, run into some familiar faces, take a general nostalgia (or other) trip, etc. archive.org/details/deadandcompany.2018-06-30.dpa4022.mixpre6.flac24Set One 1. Tuning 2. Deal 3. Me And My Uncle 4. Here Comes Sunshine 5. Black Throated Wind 6. Cold Rain And Snow 7. Peggy-O 8. Sugaree > 9. One More Saturday Night Set Two 10. Tuning 11. Dark Star > 12. From what little I've seen, to much broadcasting the band on the sphere and not enough cool psychedelic chit.
They'd beat phish if they can get a cat to lick the damn thing like the dog

I was sort of kind of liking this but then as it got to around to the end of Dew the band's playing and the visuals just seemed so synched up, and then what followed....
This is the most choreographed I've ever seen a Dead related band. Like a Vegas revue. Other than timing something for a NYE countdown I've never seen them where they have to hit their marks - or ever even wanted to have to do so as opposed to just letting the music play out naturally. Not complaining, just an observation, it is what it is, or has become.

A little of that goes a long way and it's not like anyone on the stage is doing anything visually exciting. Sounds weird to say, but all the live visuals of the band on the Sphere kind of distracts from what should be more interesting visuals.
