Fucking A y’all I dragged my ass all day at the wage cage but it was worth it to see BEAT put the Soup in Supergroup lastnight. Vai might be the penultimate soloist of all time and did get promoted when Jeff Beck passed away as perhaps the Best Living Guitarist and he and Ade are definitely well practiced as they painted around eachother and just when you think one of them paints the other into a corner the artist breaks free again and it’s such a tasty treat seeing and hearing these gentlemen support one another. Ade is still superb in his playing and his lungs are stronger than ever and his voice is beautiful. I could hear him just do spoken word and be completely entertained but hearing him howl like a madman is so awesome! I don’t think he misses Fripp with Vai slicing and dicing the arrangements. Danny Carey did his best Brufordness last night and this guy actually seems to hit these drums harder than he does in Tool but I did notice he’s a little heavier so maybe it helps throw his weight around the room. His drums were loud and his cymbal work was pristine and I think Bruford would approve of this tribute. That leaves us with Tony Levin who is creepy as fuck and so spectacular on bass and Chapman stick and he sings betwixt Ade at the perfect moments to compliment them where you just know he had a hand in writing these songs back in the day. Production was too notch! Ima go see them again in Tucson in December cuz it’s that good!
Must stay through encore. Mustn’t leave early.

I listened to it when it came out, I really enjoyed his story of sleeping on Zappa's couch. I liked when Maron asked about practice and if Belew had a routine/regimen, and like the answer to 'does he read music?' he was all like 'nah.' Just doing hours of that same stereotypical 80's Crimson gamelan riff with Fripp. It was interesting because the last interview I read was in a cover story of some Guitar magazine where Trey and the interviewer were all getting into details on Trey's practice regimen and how important he feels it is to his playing. i love when he asked bowie and eno if he could hear the song first or know the key? nope. just play.
