Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar who studied at Oxford University's Merton College, earning a master's degree in English literature. He went on to serve as a captain in the U.S. Army, where he became a helicopter pilot, in addition to having completed U.S. Army Ranger School.

My intro to Kristofferson wasn't his music, but the genre movie, 'Convoy' as the Rubber Duck. 12 years old, height of the CB radio craze, truckers, what's not to love? Took me another few years to discover what he was really about. With his resume you'd think he'd have gone into politics. But he had too much integrity for that and we're all better for it. RIP.

I've been watching Highwaymen videos all morning and it's hard to understate how crazy it is to be on a stage with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash and still be the coolest motherfucker up there. RIP Kris.

Definitely one of the coolest guys. His face and voice are part of my childhood memories. I even stuck with him when he was in his "wearing your pants backwards" phase.
