Dude got his start in Michigan, he used to open up for Greensky a bunch, i beleive he even opened up for them in Chicago for a New years run, or at least new Years eve. Greenksy is connected to the Dead scene too. Billy also played with Billy and Kids multiple times, has played full dead sets with other bands and has had many shows where he would cover more than one dead song. Again i don't believe you're fully reading what i'm saying. I'm saying IF he were to bash the Dead it probably woulnd't kill his popularity since he has transcended genres and has become popular among many music fans and circles BUT i'm just saying it is a bad look considering the Grateful Dead scene is the scene that was a launching pad to his popularity. He will be fine no doubt, but in my eyes, and it's possible i'm the only one, acting as if you are above playing that music and throwing shade at those who do, is in real bad taste

I was thinking about this on Sunday. Billy is a unifier. There are folks from all walks drawn to his music. The guy behind me was like, how cool is it that so many people are into bluegrass. Billy has brought all these different camps of people together and it's pretty awesome.

yeah i realized my grave error after i posted, but yes fuck daveo.
i do love billys cover of china doll though...glad to have caught it now that he's done playing those tunes. as mentioned his popularity would have taken off based on his talent alone, but there is no denying that playing a dead song or 2 every now and then, helped boost his popularity when he was coming up.
