We watched Back To The Future last night and then me n Riceboy joked around about he needs to go back to 2004 to ensure Ladyrice falls in love with me so he can be born and stuff. It was a funny conversation following a great movie.

Robert Zemeckis's next movie. Looks pretty nuts. Deaging tech still isn't there but I'll still probably see this in theater.

Just finished watching the Night Of The Hunter, incredibly ahead of it's time and Robert Mitchums performance is an absolute treat. Shelly Winters is also exceptional. Still creepy 65 years later.

Just got back from Longlegs, it's very spooky. Not too gory, Nic Cage is phenomenal in it as is Marika Monroe. Longlegs really do live like that.

Lastnight me n Ladyrice seent MaXXXine and the vibe is creepy 1985 gota Tarantinoesque gore to it and Mia Goth is a badass and very good actor and the soundtrack kicks ass and the score is almost 70s era cheese but I guess 80s style is more likely. Kevin Bacon plays a great sleazeball but the middle half hour is kinda dull and Ladyrice felt slightly cheated but my expectations were low so I enjoyed it. I love that sleazy 1985 Hollywood era almost as much as I enjoy the 1970s NYC sleaze era and it’s a good tribute to some bad movies.

After we got home we started Angel (1984) about a schoolgirl by day and a street walking hooker by night while a serial killer is fucking shit up on Hollywood Blvd and because it was filmed in *1983 its got that authentic creepy 80s LA vibe that MaXXXine was really trying to emulate. We didn’t finish it but we will and there are a couple sequels. The next one is called Avenging Angel where she is a professional business woman by day and a street walking hooker with a gun at night and I bet another serial killer is on the loose in Hollywood.
*1983 - a hollywood blvd movie theater had Return of the Jedi on the outside billboard in Angel.

I was a bit taken back by the tagline for it which was “If Pete hated the Afterlife, he is realllly going to be pissed at this!” 🤪 It was aiight.

It’s kinda funny how the “teenagers” of the 70s and 80s look like they are 35. Makes me think of AC lol

I watched Open Range this morning, very solid movie. Maybe the best movie I've seen Costner in. Robert Duvall rules.

Michaek Mann used a similar shot of a dude getting blown off of his feet in Blackhat that felt inspired by one in that final shootout. Costner is great in that scene.

I completely forgot about 'Angel' but your description completely reminded me to the point where when I Googled an image of the movie poster it was exactly what I was expecting - schoolgirl on half the poster/hooker on the other. Never saw it, but I now remember it coming out my senior year of HS. I listened to some show on NPR that talked about MaXXXine. They didn't like it as much as the first two in the series, but mentioned it had that creepy 80's LA vibe. The snippet of Kevin Bacon I heard sounded super deep fried in dirty Dixie sauce. I might check them out, if only for a goof. When I was a kid in the 70's I distinctly remember that NYC sleaze vibe you mentioned. I was way too young to fully capitalize on it, but there was something about it I found appealing. I was able to catch some of it in the 80's, even if it wasn't quite as sleazy, or just felt like NYC was going through a change and slowly losing the sleaze vibe. Those 80's movies showing the seedy side of sunny L.A. is one of the reasons I moved there after college, but by the time I got there at the beginning of '89 it felt like the end of the tail end - like showing up to a music festival late Sunday afternoon and the festival experience not being what you were hoping for. A few years later and I was more into scratching my sleaze itch by watching old movies than I was with living in the sketchy part of whatever town. The Whitaker in Eugene was kind of a large town/small city version of it, but nothing like 70's NYC/80's LA. Thanks for inadvertently reactivating some memories through your movie choices. Keep 'em coming. I got a soft spot for those old, dated genre pics.

We finished Angel (1984) and what a gem of a film set in the heart of shithole Hollywood in the Eighties and what a fantastic performance by 22 yr old playing a 15 yr old hooker Donna Wilkes and a great villain serial killer who at one point cuts a hole in the shell of a raw egg and sucks the egg out but then smashes the shell into his mouth like some weirdo psycho and spoiler alert he shaves his head and disguises himself as a Hare Krishna for the final act and the movie delivered the goods and I definitely want to see the next chapter called Avenging Angel (1985) but Donna Wilkes does not reprise her role as they recast Angel with the role she had originated because the producers refused to pay her the salary she wanted.

I watched Idiocracy last night. Mike Judge doesn't miss! Very solid comedy and fairly accurate vision of the future.
