  Deathstar II: This was my backup plan because I couldn’t think of anything original to do for the Arts Council carve. Huge 150lb pumpkin. Everything is carved except what you see in black. That’s pumpkin skin with black paint. 95% of it was done completely freehand. The pumpkins were so wet and there was so much moisture in the tent that my sharpie and ballpoint pen wouldn’t work. My paint pens worked, but they wouldn’t dry. So all the detail you see in the top was done while carving with no outlines. The exception to that is the death ray. I was able to trace that on. It’s why it looks good. If you notice there is no detail on the bottom panels, it’s because I ran out of time. If I had two days to do this at home, it would have looked near perfect. I was there for 10 hours and put in about 8 hours of actual work. I was scrambling to finish when the guests showed up. So it’s sloppy. I wish I could have cleaned it up a lot. I love it. Clearly. |
