If I'm being an optimistic, I think Putin realizes that using nukes on any level would ostracize him not only from the world at large, but also any current allies and nation not currently hostile to him. He'd be a pariah and might just fuck himself so bad that no one would stand in the way of any country that tried to remove him. I'm guessing the larger powers don't want war on any grand scale as it's bad for business overall, and prefer their smaller skirmishes which are profitable without destroying the world's economy or infrastructure on any grand scale.
I'd like to think if Putin winds up getting his ass kicked in Ukraine that neither the Ukrainians or anyone else are going to follow his troops back to Moscow and look to change the regime. He'd probably be left alone once the West gets what they want and he's out of Ukraine. He'll instead focus on consolidating his diminished power domestically, give up his big dick dreams on any kind of global scale, and live out his years being the biggest little dick in Russia. It would probably get a lot more Stalin'esque. Not a good time to be a Russian in Russia.
Of course that's me being optimistic and hoping that being able continue running the show in Russia while having to downsize his global dreams would be sufficient for him if it means he has at least some power vs. being willing to blow it all up because he can't get everything he wants. I have no idea how stable or unstable he really is.

Ukraine is going hard. That's a big blow to Russia to lose that bridge to Crimea.

Not to the nuclear test. I feel there has to be bigger players that would make quick work of that if they made such a desperate and petty move. Even from the inside, just completely neutralize things but who knows. It sucks that the folks over there are basically pawns to see how for things are allowed to escalate before bigger actions are taken.

Saw where someone posted "30-50% of Russia lacks things like plumbing and heating, but given that they have been pulling conscripts and mobiks from rural areas it has to be higher among those in Ukraine)"
"i've been seeing a lot of photos and videos, and it's bizarre how often washing machines in particular but other stolen goods as well including toilets and sinks are found when the Russians abandon an area, even in their fighting positions.
my guess is that they are being stolen by soldiers from rural regions who don't having them and so consider them a great prize of war -- and who may not realize that they require running water, hot water, and sewers, which they also may not have and so may be why the don't have washing machines to begin with..."
Lifting a dagger or a watch off a dead enemy as a souvenir I can understand, but how did these Russian soldiers figure they could bring a washing machine or toilet along with them till the end of their tour of duty and then get it back to their village? It ain't like that episode in M*A*S*H where Radar shipped a Jeep back to Iowa, part by part.

That’s just sad.
And these guys are either dumb enough to keep fighting for Russia or too scared to stop.

Somewhere in Russia, a general is explaining to Putin that the primary reason their troops aren’t covering more ground is because the infantry men are each carrying a washing machine.

I just watched the Letterman interview with Zelenskyy on Netflix
Hard not to like the guy and pull for him and Ukraine after seeing him talk.
