This is sure to bring the LULZ!!! liveforlivemusic.com/news/donna-jean-godchaux-reddit/Do you have anything pressing you’ve been meaning to ask former Grateful Dead backing vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux? Well, you’re in luck! Godchaux will field questions from fans as part of a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session on Friday, March 30th. The Q&A will take place from 7pm to 9pm on the Grateful Dead “subreddit” page. Godchaux and her husband, keyboardist Keith Godchaux, were members of the Grateful Dead from 1972 to 1979. Keith passed away in a car accident not long after their departure from the band, and Donna went on to record with a number of other projects—such as the Heart of Gold Band—in the ensuing years Prior to her time with the Grateful Dead, Donna worked as a session singer at some of Muscle Shoals, AL’s most respected studios, where she contributed vocals to classics like Percy Sledge’s “When A Man Loves A Woman” and Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds”. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 as a member of the Grateful Dead. In 2016, Godchaux performed with Grateful Dead spin-off Dead & Company during a few shows, including shows at Boston’s Fenway Park and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Fans that would like to ask Godchaux a question or two will need to create an account on Reddit. You can find out how to do that here. Watch Donna Jean Godchaux’s AMA announcement video below:

I would ask her what it was like to be part of the greatest musical era in the Dead's history....never had an issue with Donna. For all the bitching about her off key screams, the lady laid down some quality moments and was part of the magic that made that era what it was.

It's like hearing grateful dead songs being attacked by a harpy.

I once asked Donna if she wanted to poke smot with me. This was at the River Street Jazz Cafe when I ran into her in the bathroom pre-show. She said no thanks, maybe after the show. But then after the show she just drank wine.
At some point that night I was hanging out with her band (which still included Jeff Mattson at the time) and mentioned her turning down my pre-show offer, and they all cracked up, and said to each other "HA, can you imagine Donna high during a show?" Apparently she's a bit of a space-case as it is, lol. She did seem pretty "delicate" to me.
