I'm thinking about buying a set of passive emgs and the solderless wiring kit and putting them in that telecaster I showed you a while back. Instead of buying anything else for it I'll just put it back together the way it came and see what's up. It will require a little routing and pickguard. I think I can do it with the dremel.

Just that there will not be a battery. So really not that good of an excuse. I'm already liking going to be routing.

The body is routed hh for double humbuckers and I thought that the emgs would be an easy way to get it playable.

Damn it bear... You have me questioning my logic.

If they are just passive 'buckers then there might be something better than what EMG is offering since they primarily do active pumps. Just a thought, there are no rules so if it sounds good to you then roll with it

See, that's just it. I don't really know what I'm looking for or if I'm building it to keep or sell. If I'm going the emg route I probably should go active. I might love the active pick ups. It's all an experiment.

A lot more options in the actives too.

Or I will buy a soldering iron and if I mess something up, I'll try it again. I have to start somewhere. I could practice on it.

soldering is easy if you have the right iron. i dont think ive had a guitar with the real deal EMG 81/85 set... i had a Charvel DS2ST that i didnt care for the active pickups on, but that was a while ago and i think i would know what to do with it now if i had one in my hands. (this pic is not mine but the same model) the short of it is that active pickups sound clear and clean without much magnet characteristics to them, almost like a hi-fi output for your guitar. some people dig em obvs, especially heads that are doing some serious sculpting with their tone like some metal guitarists. with 5 string bass guitars they are the standard. i guess its time i give them another shot on a 6 string. damnit higs.

I kind of assumed that if I put in emgs that it would be a "heavy" guitar. All I'm really used to playing is the strat single coils. I played the PRS for a while and the humbuckers sound great, but I'm just used to the single coils and they way they react to how I play. Maybe I'll look into p90s or a more standard set of tele pick ups.

Found out the battery on my "pen" acts like an ebow when you point it towards the pick ups just right. Happy accident.
