Wilco cleaned out an old unit or studio or something and sold a bunch of stuff a while back.

I was in the city last week and found myself on the street with all of the music shops. Bunch of brands I've never heard of so I have no idea if they're any good and didn't want to annoy anyone by playing the songs you're not supposed to play with my now diminished guitar skills. Same with the basses.

That 100 all-time bassists list kinda blows. They get a lot of the obvious ones you'd expect but there's a lot of players on that list that don't belong there or are listed far higher compared to others who deserve to be higher. Glad to see Scott LaFaro get some recognition, but how does he (and Phil Lesh) get placed below Roger Glover, Michael Anthony, Dee Dee Ramone and other players who weren't bad, just not great, better, or more interesting bass players than some left off the list entirely. But it's all subjective, so so what if it reads like Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitar Players.

that list sucks. I'm better than some of those folks. Leland Sklar is only 98th? They ranked the dude from Violent Femmes higher than Phil Lesh? Are they trolling us? The top 12 is solid as heck though.

I was curious to what your thoughts were. I can't play a note but also raise an eyebrow at a few.
Never thought Sting was regarded as exceptional.
Glad to see my man Entwistle in the top ten.

It read like they partly based that list on record sales, popularity, or how influential the band they were in was. When people talk about Michael Anthony's contribution to Van Halen it's almost always for his excellent harmony vocals, not for his bass playing. The writer even justified his pick by saying that before anyone ever heard Eddie on the first album you hear Anthony playing that repetitive one-note intro, and if I remember correctly it's just plucking an open E string. That's why he deserves to be considered one of the 100 greatest? There were a lot of other similar examples of average at best players. Being a bass player in a great band doesn't make one a great bass player. #ripoff

The top 12 is solid as heck though. Seeing Sklar at 98th gave me some initial hope it might be a quality list but those hopes quickly slid downhill from there. I'd of rather seen a list by Trevor Dunn or some other really talented and versatile bass player list 100 across many genres. The writer was either trolling or a dope.
